Handgun Carry Permit badge

Does anyone own and wear or carry one of these badges or its equivalent with wording variations?

Why or why not?

And if you do, how and where do you carry it?

No because I am not an officer of the law.

No. I'm not a police officer. As much as I like the police officers that I know, I don't want to be one. I don't want to be accused of impersonating a police officer, and should I ever have to shoot someone in SD, I don't want a prosecutor telling a jury, "Spats McGee was just dying to be a police officer. So much so that he always carried his 'Concealed Carry Badge' that he bought over the internet."

IMHO, the only thing sillier than the Concealed Carry Badge is the Concealed Carry Sash.

You've been around long enough to know those things are a joke and may get you into more trouble than the $35 they cost.

Do as was originally suggested and spend the money of more nachos for you and your friends.

And, yes, that is how the "Nachos Legend" began. "Don't waste money on no stupid badge. Spend the money on more nachos..."

Why not? They carry no weight of the law. They do not stand in for your original paper, cardboard or plastic permit or license to carry.

They do not create a force field around you protecting you from bullets.

When confronted by law inforcement, pointing at the badge, yelling, "LOOK, I'M a GOOD GUY LIKE YOU" may be heard as "I'm a COP, TOO". Bad ju-ju follows...

If you wear the badge because you're open carrying, and you believe the badge will fool people into thinking you're a cop, therefore they'll fear you less, just carry concealed. If you're not comfortable being just yourself while OCing, and you need a crutch to OC, you damn well ain't ready to OC. You're carrying to impress people - wrong reason for carrying. Carry concealed until you grow up and can lose the "training wheels".

If you're wanting a "CCW Badge" cause one day you 'wannabe a policeman', grow up, apply, go through the interviews, go through academy. They'll give you a blue practice pistol first, then a real one, then a badge when they say you're ready.

No one has ever posted on GT in the 11 years I've been here a real, factual, verifiable story about a CCW badge benefiting anyone except the guys selling them.

Same goes for those stupid CCW sashes. Unless you need
...nevermind. What I was going to say, I'd have to give myself an infraction.

Badges are a bad idea.

NO.

The badge is in no way a form of official ID. It is not issued by the State. It is a NOVELTY, that has the risk of getting you accused of impersonating an officer or painted as a "wannabe cop"/vigilante in court. A fake badge is just that....a FAKE badge. You do not even need to have a carry permit to be able to buy a badge...thus, when used in real life, it is a form of FALSE/COUNTERFEIT ID.

A CCW badge thread ought to provide some entertainment. The sash is a bit of entertainment by itself.

I know a guy at the range I shoot at that has one of those badges. He flashes it when ever he can.

I just can't help thinking that's not a very smart thing to do. I wouldn't want to have cops thinking I'm impersonating a cop with that badge.

Not for me thanks.

Bad idea.

Flashing a badge can easily get you in trouble with the police.

Flashing a badge can also get you into trouble with a ex-con that happens to hate stinkin "Badgers"......

Next time just casually ask "So do you also have a counterfeit drivers license badge too?"
Carry Issues

(or just say "Yeah, my son liked toy badges too...but's he's grown up since then and thinks they are a joke now. By the way...anybody know where I can rent a pony? His 9th birthday is coming up.")

Monopoly money is "play" money..."novelty" money. But any attempt to pass it off as "real" money is still illegal. In that context it is no longer "play" money, it is now counterfeit money.

Counterfeit:
(adjective) 1. made in imitation so as to be passed off fraudulently or deceptively as genuine.
