What is a good condition Savage 99E in 308 worth?

Always wanted one, and found one with a crappy scope for $500. It is at Gander MT, so I figure it is overpriced.

My memory isn't like it used to be but if the 99E is the one that Savage brought back to production in the 1990s then that price is a toss up. I shot the old 99 and it was a fine piece of American iron. The reintroduction was so roughly made that I could barely cycled the lever.

You may find some useful information above. A 99 in .250 is on my bucket list.

The E stood for Economy model i.e, cheap wood not well finished. None the less those dang 99s are going for some money.

If I was going after the OPs rifle I would do my homework, find out the year it was made, start negotiations by bad mouthing the "economy" model, wood, finish, scope etc and etc and see if you can get it down to $400. Low ball an offer and then work your way up.
