Why does Glock keep changing the finish of their slides?

Here are 2 Glock 30Ss. The new smooth finish is really crappy in my opinion. Why can't they stick with a good thing?

Bear in mind the slides are also tumbled in media to remove burrs during production, and such "polishing" can have an effect upon the way the eventual finish appears.

One has a durable finish and the other one doesn't... Yet they cost the same price?

Why should I have to send the crappy one to Robar for $200 to get a decent finish ? Will Glock pick up the tab? Doubtful....

since Gaston fired his son and daughter from the company and his new wife is running the company he's going down hill, it's a shame.

I was talking appearance of the slide before whatever finish may be applied, not durability of whatever finish may be involved.

I've noticed some variability in the finishes of my own Glocks, but nothing in the way of durability problems. Granted, I've only got a little more than 15K rounds each on a couple of them, and less on the newest one (2010 production), only a few thousand rounds. Oddly enough, I've not heard much in the way of complaints expressed by agency armorers about "finish" problems in my recert classes over the years, either.

They didn't spend much time discussing the new hardening process in my last couple of armorer classes, seemingly because armorers didn't express any interest in asking questions. They did mention in my last recert that Glock engineers have said the new Nitration process being used is better than the previous Tenifer process, though.

Maybe I'm just not overly concerned about minor variations and changes in such production issues, since I come from a time when blued guns were commonly used and stainless steel was still being looked at with some lingering suspicion.

I tend not to sweat the cosmetic appearance of service-grade guns.

Anytime a company can find a cheaper way to do something, it means more money in their pocket.

If you read through the other dozen or so threads on this topic, you'll find a wealth of information. Some of it may actually be accurate. Some of that, in turn, may actually be useful.

I must say if you dont like the finish dont buy it. I wouldnt.
If you keep buying Gastons crap finishes then why would he do anything differently? Stop drinking the Koolaid and dont buy a **** product.
Stop buying crap and them complaining about it.
On a side note I have not seen one in person with a crap finish, but If I did I would never buy it
It would be like buying a brand new car with a screwed up dull paint job and then complaining

You are right, but I really wanted the G30s. I bought 2 of them and one had the flaking rails. Glock replaced it with one with the nice finish. Maybe I can talk them into replacing the other one? But I doubt it. I think I should be happy with what I got.

They've only been making their guns for, what, almost 30 years? Give them some time to work out the kinks!

The Left (top) one looks like "Silverstone".

What's wrong w/ the other finish? It looks flatter, maybe slicker.
