There was a huge and hilarious dust-up about it some time ago (the plane on a treadmill, not the helicopter with a blender under it - I just threw that in there because helicopters are inherently evil and fly due to a perverse application of the dark side of physics). Coulda been months, coulda been years; it all kind of runs together around here. Either way, the thread was epic.

To those of you who took my comments seriously, y'all need to spit the hook out of your mouths.

I read that the ruskies using pencils was false. The concern being that if a pencil tip snapped off, it would create a hazard to the crew and instruments in the spacecraft.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a group of baboons is called a troop. (Yes, i googled it).

A group of congressmen are rightly called baboons (which is still insulting to the baboons).

I guess that's why they call you atlas and not me. Thank you for bringing me into the light.

So let me ask you this, since you've provided your bonifides.
My father say the northern most, southern most eastern most, and western most state in the union is Alaska, or Hawaii, is this true?

Yeah, I thought it was attributed to WWI pilots and their guns.

If you happen to find a link to that thread can you post it? I get the idea but it sounds like it may have hit Bravia-and-jacked-up-teef levels of epicness.

Having flown my share of 'em, I have a loose understanding. My CFI would probably challenge me on that comment, though.

You'll have to search on some keywords like "Treadmill" etc., but it may be so old as to have fallen away. I don't know how far back this stuff is kept on the servers.

There are some references to it as early as 1912; but who knows?

A teen secretly lived in AOL’s HQ for 2 months, eating free food, using gym & showers, sleeping in conference rooms while working on his start-up. Everyone assumed he worked there.

Lady Astor once told Winston Churchill 'if you were my husband, I would poison your coffee'. His reply ' if you were my wife, I would drink it!'

The shortest war on record was fought between Zanzibar and England in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes.

Months that begin on a Sunday will always have a "Friday the 13th."

In 2006, a prisoner got himself a job in prison repairing mail bags, and he climbed inside one and mailed himself out of prison.

In the 1980s, Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel was spending $2,500 a month on rubber bands just to hold all their cash.

In 1916 a Salt Lake City company figured out the cheapest way to send 40 tons of bricks to Vernal Utah was to wrap each individually and send parcel post. Regulations were quickly changed to address this issue

I did that but so many threads came up that I could not find it.

The US constitution is the oldest constitution in the world. It is also the shortest.

The US national anthem is different from every other national anthem because it is the only one to begin with a question. “Oh, say can you see…”
