I think I have found the one thing this forum doesnt have

I have searched this forum over from one end to the other and I can’t find a dedicated thread or category related to gun safes. I was doing some research before buying my liberty fat boy jr and couldn’t find any pics or anything about gun safes. This category would be a place to discuss safe choices, safe location ideas, safe storage ideas, maybe a safe pic thread, safe lighting, and so on and so forth. Just an idea but this would have helped me in choosing a safe and will still help with issues like lighting and storage. I am the type to always want to see ideas others have had and either modify them or use them and this would be awesome for the forum. I just was thinking this could be a very vast sharing place for knowledge. This is just an idea from a simple minded man like me.

Glocktalkers dont use safes. They bury weapons in vacuum packed bags in the back yard.

Safe threads pop up occasionally but no stickies or sub forum I'm aware of.

A guy I golf with home was burglarized about a month ago and they just took his entire safe with them, chock full of guns. I asked him if it was bolted down and he said "No, but the new one is." So, bolt it down. Period.

There are several threads about safes on GT, and the topic comes up fairly frequently.

What exactly are you looking for?

yeah I bolted mine down, not with the lag bolts they supplied either i actually used threaded rod and went through the floor and insulation and bolted it through doubled 2x4's under the floor joist.

I am running out of room lol and just like neat ideas for storage, like seeing how people organize things differently, such as that.

I have in-floor radiant heat, so I cannot bolt my safe to the floor. It is in a closet in my office. Any suggestions from the smart guys on GT?

Bolt through the back, into a wall stud.

ETA: if that's not an option either, consider cable locking it to an anchor or filling the bottom with bags of lead shot.

Fellow I know bought the house of a Remington representative. His steel gun safe was the size of a closet. It sat on a special base that was so thick it was raised up from the floor and heavily bolted ( one inch bolts) into a steel reinforced concrete pad.

It was installed while the house was being built.

A dedicated thread might be a useful thing, but I typed "Safes" in the search and 200 results came up over the last year. Seems easy enough to find the information to me.

There have been tons of threads about safes in GT. Not sure what the OP searched for.

And, I did lose all my guns in a tragic boating accident. Sad sad sad, and I leak tears to this day about it......

I don't need a safe anymore as I had a tragic boating accident.

The safe thread(s) on GT usually surface at a rate of 2 or 3 a month. Give it some time.

I think like 99% of people your main problem will be your quick snatch and grab thieves. I lived in an apartment until a few months back and couldn't bolt my safe down.

It's in the basement of my Condo now, I suppose I could somehow bolt it to the concrete floor but not sure how.

What I did, was line the bottom with something fairly heavy. I added about 300 pounds of lead bricks into the bottom of mine.

With guns, ammo and cleaning supplies the thing easily weighs 600-700 pounds not counting the safe itself.

To steal it they would have to go all the way into my basement, through the finished part into the unfinished part to get to the thing, and then take it upstairs (which wasn't a cake walk for two guys empty putting it down there).

I don't imagine that's going to happen. But if it does, I have insurance.

My Handgun Safe

First of all thanks for posting that very informative video about investing in a high quality safe and what to look for. If I get to that level I will be sure to heed that expert's advice.

I'll give my two cents. I like the FAS1Safe (http://redwhiteblue.co/2013/10/best-...s-for-pistols/) for my handgun safe due to its quick access in the dark and reduced fail points (no batteries). Plus it's made in the USA.
