Back to Glocks after 15 years

My first Glock 17 1st Gen was gone decades ago along with the standard capacity magazines. Won't say where of course, probably a boating accident.

Just bought a Gen 4 Glock 30 here in Hawaii. No CCW here and probably will never be in my remaining lifetime. No big deal for me, live in a fairly small town on the Big Island and crime needing an EDC is vanishingly rare.

Still have my Colt 1911 Series 70 I have had for about 40 years. Always yearned for another Glock for the understated reliability and fumble-proof first shot. My wife cannot operate the action of the Colt, so I hope to get her to be able to cycle the 30.

Decided to stay with .45 ACP since my caliber downsizing to .45/.308/12ga. Wanted to get a 21, but neither the 21SF or 21 Gen4 felt very natural to me. Am used to one handed slide stop and mag release which was not very natural with the 21.

The 30S and 30 Gen 4 both did all I want, for my hand size, and the modest overall size fits my idea of a HD and if need be, a SHTF carry gun.

Reading up on the slightly heavier slide of the 30 and maybe wanting to try a conversion barrel later convinced me to stay with the regular 30.

Almost went with a 22 as it just felt so good like my old 17, but did not want to start up with yet another caliber and lots of shooters do not much care for the .40 it seems.

Am now in the BS Hawaii 2 week waiting period. The good thing is, my dithering about what modern .45 is over. My agonizing had gone on far too long. A Sig P220 seemed like a nice choice at one time until I tried one and found the DA first pull ridiculous. That convinced me to go back to the Glock trigger consistency I got used to.

Edit: Oh yeah, my weird screen name is from the year I went through boot camp in San Diego. Yeah, I am that old. NRA Lifer too.

That was my thinking, that all conceivable targeting ranges were covered.

I do have a Kimber .22 conversion kit, so I lied a little bit........

FWIW, I got rid of 9mm, 40 S&W, and .223/5.56mm before moving the rest of the toys to the islands. That was before the tragic boating accident of course............

Nice. You live in a Beautiful area. My Brother was on the Big Island for a number of years, and my Bother in law lives down in Hawaii Kai.

Trying to stick to similar calibers is the reason I went with a G27. Had a KP94 and a Hi-Power .40 for a number of years, so a Glock in .40 sounded good. I seem to do well with that round in an auto.

Hawai Kai on Oahu, right? I lived in Kalama Valley there for four years before moving here. If you have to be near Honolulu, that is as nice as is gets.

Yeah, down near Hanauma Bay. Great hiking and diving. My wife and I try to get out there once a year.
