Magpul AK Grip Review

The Kalashnikov Klub

The Kalashnikov Klub

The Kalashnikov Klub

Like many of you I've been waiting to get my paws on Magpul's new AK grip since seeing it at SHOT show and it's arrived. Here are my thoughts on it:

Pros:

-Feels much better in the hand than the standard AK grip
-I like the texturing on it better than the AR MOE grip
-Reasonably priced (generally around $20)
-The storage compartment is compatible with other MOE grips out there

Cons:

-It comes with a flat head screw. I'd rather see a phillips or hex screw but I'm really just trying to find something that could be improved upon here.

Here's my review with some shooting, a comparison to a AR MOE grip, Hogue AK grip, US Palm AK grip, and a standard com-bloc AK grip:

I got mine in today from primary arms. I love it so far. It's a little smaller in hand than I thought it would be but I really love the stippling texture on the sides.

Small world, I just picked up on on ebay and put it on Saiga conversion #8. After this grip I will never again use a saw grip. I give it a 10 ! I also used a standard socket head screw to put it in.

And I thought I would never part from the Hogue. It was my favorite of all the grips I had tried, until I found this thread & the Magpul. This grip is just right!

I got my two magpul grips in and swapped out the old hogues. I like the feel/ texture of the magpul but they are seem thin (front to back) and the lop is very short.

I always enjoy your vids. Do you prefer this grip over the US Palm?

I prefer the grip texture; but I prefer the size of the US Palms as I have large hands.

plouffedaddy,

How would you compare the Magpul grip to a SAW AK grip?

The biggest difference would be the circumference. I have large hands and the SAW always felt good in my hands (I'm not sure if it's because I spent a lot of time as a M249 SAW gunner or just the size). I like the texture of the MOE better but the size of the SAW better. I have the SAW on my Krebs guns and my DRACO. It's one of the products that I think TAPCO got right (not many others ).

Yeah, they don't have a ton of texture, but they aren't slick(at least the 2 I own aren't). I did add some rubberized grip tape for a bit of extra grip.

ETA: The reason I think they are the highest quality grip out there is because of how stout he makes them. If I used one of my AKs as a hammer with the grip as the head of the hammer, the barrel would probably bend before the grip broke.

I love the ergos of his Molot grip as well.
