This incidnet was wrapped up on 10/31. This is NOT the LAX incident that happened on 11/1.

He only has 10 rounds. Count his shots and then run in there when he's fiddling with his bullet button.

Isn't California a gun free state

So the police on these forums, make fun of and degrade the people that they dislike for doing the same to them....it boggles.

Good grief. Is it possible to have a discussion like this here without it turning into a cops vs them pissing match? Give it a rest, ok folks? By all means, discuss the issue, but if you want to argue about LEO's, pro or con, do it elsewhere.

I don't have much faith in the TSA but I always wondered why they are not armed. It wouldn't be that hard for someone to make it through the checkpoint and onto a plane.

They're not sworn LEO.

We have enough police (and some military) presence in airports. If you've seen the types of people that the TSA employs, you wouldn't want them to be armed either. In fact, I'm pretty sure a lot of them COULDN'T QUALIFY to be armed.

CBS reports the shooter was or is a TSA employee, but most early reports are wrong. As far as making it through the checkpoint, I don't see the advantage of arming TSA employees in that regard.

Targeting TSA? Camo or khaki's? Witness statements can always be so ... interesting.

One of the other articles I read said the suspect "pulled a gun", but other reports state he was walking around with a rifle. Bullet button/off-list lower, maybe? Guess which recently vetoed legislation is going to be brought up again in the state legislature next year?

Do you really think we could stop an armed person from making it past the checkpoint? I don't.

CNN is saying it is a "assault weapon" and they have heard that from a few sources............................

I'm glad they are not armed. I can see them drawing down on old ladies and children who resist their advances. I hope this event doesn't provide them with justification TO arm. We don't need any more armed government agents.

now we have a new vernacular in our language and instead of "going postal" the shooter can " go TSA"

And...re what Eric posted....Ive been the first in to a couple of "live shooter" situations and its not funny. My first one I thought I was going to have a heart attack as it was hammering in my chest like a motorcycle engine. The irony of being one of those who run in when all the others are running out was not lost on me in any of those incidents: we joke that being a LEO is 95% boredom and 5% terror and its true.

Well, there goes all the 5.56mm ammo for the next couple of months, again.

I am struck by the irony of an "assault rifle" being used in California - that's unpossible! The are illegal there!

Stand by for the Brady Bunch, et.al., to "not let a good crisis go to waste." Cue Obamao and the gun grabbers in 5, 4, 3......

These statements always make me nervous. They use these situations to argue that they should be illegal everywhere. If you can buy one in another state and drive to CA then we need stricter laws across the nation. I disagree, but they are many.

Having flown in/out of LAX a bunch, it seems to be less of a security risk than say DIA. DIA has all passengers lined up in two places for security. But LAX has many smaller areas.

Here is what a typical security line at DIA looks like:

The Okie Corral

If a person wants to harm a lot of people, a good way is to find a bunch of people bunched up together.

I think other places see this as a security. The lines at GVA on an el Al flight have guards with machine guns next to them and watching the lines (with machines) from the level above.

Essentially the long wait times/lines put people waiting in them at a risk.

Look at where mass shootings take place: where people are bunched up and cant get away quickly.
