This story, and the originating "news outlet", did not disappoint when it comes to conspiracy theory fervor. Not need to worry, the USMC does have a public affairs section and went to work.

Quote:
In an email, Marine Corps officials said there is no truth to reports that President Obama is behind the potential change.
“The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” according to the Marine Corps statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business. … The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.”

Heard some of the guys moaning about this at work yesterday.

"He (Obama) wants to make the Corps gay!"

"Well, the queers will be happy!"

"First gays in the military, now this!"

Pretty sad that such homophobia is still alive and well.

One other thing-- the "new" style of cover that was on the Foxnews article is not new; it resembles the cover that was worn prior to 1922. In fact, it's nicknamed the "Dan Daly" cover. Anyone that was in the Marines knows what a legend he was (two CMH's, anyone?) and he wore that cover.

In fact, I'd challenge anyone from this board, anyone at all, to say to a Marine from before 1922 "Hey, that's a pretty gay looking hat! You look like a Frenchie, and blah blah blah!" and see how long it takes for your teeth to get knocked down the back of your throat. It was a different Corps, back then.

The posters on the first page have an alibi since the cited article wasn't posted until after 1400 yesterday.

No, to immediately blame a President for every gov decision you don't agree with without any proof that he was even involved in any way is stupid. Then try to spin it into a massive conspiracy to weaken the military makes it even worse. We should always hold news sources that publish incorrect stories accountable. Not give them a pass because we agree with their brand of politics.

No, they have no alibi when they point to one person as if he strolled into the Pentagon and said "Ya know what we should do today....?" Honestly, it doesn't even matter that the person they're blaming is the president. There is no alibi for being so dense as to realize no single person in a chain of command makes those calls in the military.

There have to be committees and blue ribbon panels and experts weighing in, etc.

So, no, there's no alibis on this one. The Marine command quote that Stars & Stripes (and others) ran was in response to the people out there just makin' sh** up. What's not included in the quote was the massive eye-roll that preceded the statement.

Well hell....the libertards still believe that Bush planted explosives to flood New Orleans, set off a nuclear device in the ocean to cause the tsunami in Thailand, Bush steered Hurricane Katrina into New Orleans in order to rig the elections, forced all 13 year olds into the draft by executive order. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the libertards blamed the staged fainting woman on Bush's fart smells.

I don't care what anyone thinks, Obama is president and it's all his fault!!!

That's the point, most of us hold ourselves to a much higher standard than "libertards", and sadly others here don't. You're apparently in the latter group.

I'll venture a guess--- the NY Post did a little photoshopping. The NY Post is about on par with the National Enquirer so I wouldn't put it past them.

In my time I was quite proud to wear the maroon beret for Airborne. There were only two others...the black for Rangers and the green for Special Forces. It was quite an honor to have gained the ability to wear one. Then the Army decided it hurt other soldier's feelings because they couldn't wear one and took the black beret away from the Rangers and gave it to everyone, quickly deleting the honor and work those soldiers had done to deserve it. That didn't last long.

As stupid as I think the Army's decision to issue berets to everyone was... someone else using your symbol doesn't "delete" your honor or work, unless you went Airborne just for the hat. The Rangers switched to tan, so they still had their own unique color.

If you think someone else wearing the same hat as you takes away your honor, I don't think you understand honor.
