Correct....the directive is to standardize the uniforms which will be cost effective in the long run. The final selection will come from military leadership. Obama has little to do with it and is certainly not suggested the "Marines wear girl hats".

I've never seen a female Marine even close to "girly".

I like the smaller ones. Easier to store and less of a target for Sea Gulls and Pigeons.

But it will be harder to make a 50 mission crush. Oh well.

Tell that to army special forces. When JFK noticed that they were no longer wearing green berets due to an army order, he issued a directive that green berets would be worn.

I take offense at the line the Marine Corps head General.

He is the Commandant. That is one step below God...

Marines are grounded by traditions. To replace the headgear that has been in place for so long is blasphemy. The fact that we wore similar covers for 14 years a century ago is no excuse.

With the operation tempo these days, dress blues are primarily worn once a year for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. To require marines to spend money on this instead of better equipment or weapons is ridiculous.

Blame the USMC. It is the board they convened. They weren't given guidance by the White House.

Was it blasphemy when they changed from the headgear in the picture provided? Look familiar to what is being proposed to today? Tradition, correct?

I have. Served with a couple of beautiful women.

Might not be the norm but they are there.

They were support staff to an infantry company.
In the field they were hard core.

Any others remember the term "BAM"? I've seen a ton of gorgeous women in the other branches, just never had the pleasure of running into one in the Marines.

I don't really have a stake in what the Marines wear, but for a branch of the service that uses hand-me-down weapons and vehicles from other branches and makes the troops buy their own batteries for their equipment, I don't see how new dress hats are a budget priority.

HU-RAH, internet, you strike again!

E-mail from Marine Corps yesterday:
Quote:
“The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” according to the Marine Corps statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business. … The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.”
