CBS Promotional Kick Off 1965 Hogans Heroes

Wow, what a flash back to the past how they released new shows with actors from popular shows currently running during the time (early/mid 60's) promoting new shows. I was looking for the "Hogans Heroes" pilot and came across this.

HH is one of my all time favorite tv shows. Classic TV that can't be reproduced today.

1965 is a little too far in the wayback machine for me (born in 67), but I do remember the yearly preview specials the networks used to run on the Friday night before a new season of Saturday morning cartoons began.

Great old show.

Werner Klemperer auditioned for the role of General Burkhalter; the producers wanted him so bad for Klink that he was able to name unprecedented conditions, insisting that every nazi was to be played by a Jew, and that the Germans would always lose to Hogan.

There was an episode of the Wild, Wild West in which Alan Hale replaced Ross Martin's character. Jim Bachus had a minor role as well. In the final act West asked Hale where he was going, and Hale said something about vacation on a desert island (accompanied by a riff fron GI's incidental music).

Next course of study (besides Hogan's Heroes) : F Troop, My Favorite Martian, I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan's Island, The Addams Family, McHale's Navy, Bewitched, Gomer Pyle USMC, and Get Smart.

No matter what anyone else says, you can skip Father Knows Best, My Three Sons, and Leave It to Beaver. You're not missing anything there.

And don't watch That Girl unless you're confident you can handle the hotness that was Marlo Thomas in the mid 60's. It may break your heart. Plus, in all other respects the show totally sucked.

In order to be well grounded in the classics you should check out a few Leave it to Beaver anyway. Also don't forget Dennis the Menace, Dick VanDyke, and the Honeymooners.

And what Grabbrass says about Marlo in That Girl goes double for Juliet Mills in Nanny & the Professor.

CBS used that technique to another level ten years earlier with John Wayne opening the initial showing of "Gunsmoke" with a filmed endorsement of his friend James Arness and the new show. As I understand it, the producers badly wanted Wayne in the role but he wanted to stay away from the weekly TV grind and strongly recommended Arness for the role.

Some good shows mentioned.

But aside from looking good, That Girl stinks as a show.

Leave it to Beaver is a great show. Kinda subtle but funny as heck.

Bewitched takes the cake for a hottie, in my opinion. No other character on tv can compare to Samantha.

She looked better than just good. But as for it being a crap show by every other measure, yeah I said that.

I guess I just have a thing for overdone 60's fashion ... I really should start watching Mad Men I guess.

I used to love that. We would get to stay up and watch that. It was HUGE.

Of course, that's when BBRRH was something like 150 minutes long. I was good with all of them but the stupid Kangaroo-isn't-a-mouse episodes and the Pepe LePew. I always felt bad for the Coyote as well.

That Girl Opening Title - YouTube
I know two women with that voice. It took me a long time to "place" it. High-pitched raspy voice.

Loved Hogan's Heros. I'd come home from school, get a bowl of vanilla ice cream, some chocolate syrup, and spend the first half of the episode stirring that up into a pseudo milk shake, and the send half eating it.

Remember Lost In Space? The Time Tunnel?

I remember surfing from BBRRH to other shows and back, depending on which cartoon was on and whether I'd already seen it 100 times. But when The Superfriends came on, Bugs and Daffy got back-burnered.

First :14 of this is my cellphone ringtone.

Sorry, not much to do with Hogan's Heroes I guess. I know nut-tink, I see nut-tink.
