Glass breakers...

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice on a glass breaker for my car... figured you guys here would have higher than average experience with this topic.

Anyway, is there really an advantage of buying a tool specifically made for the job over just keeping a hammer in the center console?

Thanks!

From experience using something sharp and hard works much better than something flat faced like a hammer. I've seen way too many hammers just bounce off vehicle glass.

A Res-Q-Me tool is a great option. You can use it as a keychain or hang it from the turn signal lever with a small lanyard.

If you need to break glass, you generally need to do it in a hurry and without delay. This gives stand off distance, can break difficult glass anywhere it needs to be broken, and can be used for other uses, since the tool steel is designed for striking metal and far less liable to chip than a claw hammer. The ball end concentrates all the kinetic energy into a small spot.

I used a 22 ounce model and it worked well.

Break glass with one and you'll get shards of glass embedded in your bat. It then becomes a liabiiity to the wielding party.

Real world experiences.

Another vote for the spring loaded center punch. Learned about them while working as an EMT. Small and cheap

I've learned that in a pinch, if it works; it works!

Good to know.

What do you think about the efficacy of a ball peen (or perhaps cross peen) hammer as posted earlier?

I want to KISS.

If you roll your car and you just need to get out, I don't think that's going to be on the top of your brain. Breaking a window for someone else, sure, good point.

I was posting the video more because my first thought is "This thing can't possibly work," and I'm too scared to test it, so I let other people prove it for me

Would it work? Sure....as long as you have the ability to hit it right. I have seen a baton break a window with one strike and some bounce off several times even with full swings. That brings up the other issue, if you were trapped in a car in a situation where a glass breaker was needed to escape then the likelihood for an injury which limits your ability goes up along with the confined space which limits a full swing.

The glass breaker is just so simple, press and the window goes away.
