Any scotch drinkers in the house tonight?
Always, a sample of Lagavulin 21 here, thinking about Bruichladdich later on tonight.

Let me try it again….

um….

half a bottle later….

.
I did the same thing with my first bottle of Laphroaig 10 yo. I brought it home and poured a dram for my wife and me. She is only an occasional scotch drinker but she tasted and said, "Ugggh, it has an after taste of rotting fish". Needless to say that was her last drop of Laphroaig. I tasted it and went, "Hmmmm, this is different". Like you I found myself going back to it. Halfway through I'm going, "This is really not bad". By the end of the bottle I knew I really liked it. I love the Lagavulin 16 but it's expensive. Laphroaig Quarter Cask is really nice for about half the money.

I have had both and for the money I think its hard to beat the 12 year for $50. For $100 I don't think 17 year would be in my top 10 for spirits at that price.
I think Finlaggan is either a young Ardbeg or young Lagavulin, either way, it's the greatest bargain on Earth.

Really?

You know if they're selling at 30 they're still making a profit. So if its 50 here in VA and 45 in MD that extra is all tax.

I just found out how to fix CA's fiscal problems.

in PA its normally like $54 on sale $47

On my birthday and Christmas - Macallan 18 or 25, depending on the generosity of my benefactors.

The Okie Corral

Ardbeg or Glenlivet the rest of the time.

The Okie Corral

The Okie Corral

These three are my current favorites, but I've long been on a quest for the premier single-malt Scotch. Some years ago I was supporting the SEALs from RAF Machrihanish, a base situated near the Mull of Kintyr in Scotland. They wanted to jump out of an airplane, parachute into the water and practice attacking ground installations and the subs at Holy Loch. Huevos grandes.

I had sneaked my golf clubs aboard, so that when not flying, I would play golf in the daytime, but at night I would set about on a mission to determine the very best single malt Scotch in all of Scotland. I know that I accomplished this mission, but by the time I had done so, I was too drunk to recall the winning Scotch the next morning - so I had to re-initiate the experiment each evening.Tragic!

I just found out how to fix CA's fiscal problems.

We don't have prohibitive liquor taxes or state-run liquor stores here.

CA booze laws are better than most.

Based on my totally un-scientific observations of scotch prices on various internet forums (in threads like this), I have to say that I can't recall seeing anyone pay less for scotch than we do here in CA.

I wonder if it's similar for the high end stuff? IIRC the last time I saw Macallan 18 it was $150 at Total Wine. Macallan 21 Fine Oak runs around $210 IIRC.

Macallan Fine Oak 10 costs around 30 bucks, same as Double Wood. Ardbeg Corryvreckan runs about $60 I think.

The first time I tried an Islay it was love at first sip.

I currently have 4 open bottles between which I alternate: Tomatin, McLelland's Highland (a gift, Glen Garioch), Mclellands Islay (a gift, Bowmore), and Laphroaig Cŕirdeas 2012.

When those are gone I have unopened bottles of Auchentoshan (one of a kind), Ardbeg Alligator, Ardbeg Rollercoaster.
