Best Burger?

I just recently read a review of best fast food hamburger joints and decided to do my own review. In a week I ate at an In-N-Out Burger, Steak 'n Shake & Five Guys.

1st place Steak 'n Shake

2nd place In-N-Out Burger

3rd place Five Guys.

I had a double cheeseburger at each one. Five Guys is expensive at $6.99 for just the burger alone. Steak 'n Shake was the most flavorful with In-N-Out a close 2nd. I read that the Shake Shack burger is even better but there are none in my area.

None of those outfits in these parts.

Hard to beat 80/20 cooked in hot butter in a covered pan, cooked with onions, and sweet BBQ sauce. Salt, pepper, more BBQ, and a ice cold Mt Dew.

Better than any over priced burger joint I have been to.

Famous Dave's sauce is good, so is Masterpiece.

If I get real wound up, I microwave till toasted, six slices of thick sweet bacon. Weave that like an apple pie crust, put on burger.

Famous Dave's actually has an excellent burger, it has chunks of brisket in it. But they cost like $11 or so.

I wouldn't think you'd find the best burger at any of those places.

Of the three in the OP, I agree that they're all good. However, Five Guys wins the "fries contest", hands-down.

+1 Nice big burgers cooked medium rare the way I like them, a decent restaurant with booths and fairly comfortable chairs, and cheese sauce dispenser to soak my potato wedges...

In comparison, 5 Guys has good burgers, but they're small for the price, and it's a plain fast food restaurant with hard metal chairs. One opened near me a couple years ago, at first it wasn't bad but they keep raising their prices, and lately the fries taste like they've been sitting for a while. Think the last time I went it was around $12.50 with tax for a cheeseburger, fry, and drink.

Of the chains, Five Guys 1st, then Fat Burger 2nd. I tried In and Out when I was on the West Coast after hearing all the hype, but I wasn't really impressed. If any of you are ever in Baltimore, at the top of the list of burger joints to visit would be Abbey Burger Bistro. On the topic of BBQ sauce, NOTHING beats Sweet Baby Ray's original. As a matter of fact, the only reason Fat Burger is on this list for me is because they use SBR.

I used to love Steak n Shake when I was a kid. We'd eat at the original one in Normal, IL. Their shakes and fries were great too. Then, years later, we got one built near our current house. Sub par is the best I can give them. They manage to screw something up every time I go, which isn't often anymore. And now that I'm on a low-carb regimen, it's never.

Agreed. The best burgers here are at a mom and pop joint in the sticks.

Smashburger beats the OP's top 3 IMO.

Their burger choices are unique and the ingredients are fresh. The buns are also a cut above.

The Smash fries cooked in olive oil and seasoned with fresh rosemary are a treat. Also, their sweet potato fries are very good.

If you haven't tried a smashburger you ought to. (plus they sell beer).

Not indigenous to KY. I miss having a Whataburger down the street. A Whataburger with cheese and jalapenos....ohhhh ahhhhh

It's burger time here in Sioux Falls, it's a local chain. It's still char grilled. Good onion rings as well. Their half pound burger is after cook weight, not precooked. It is pricier than bk, but you get more.

The best burgers are made at home.

1/2 pound of 80/20 ground chuck, big oversized bun, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo.

I'll take homecooked every time over fast food, having said that my #1 for consistency from franchise to franchise is a Wendy's double with cheese. I've yet to have a bad one and when I wasn't staying somewhere with cooking facilities, ate out every meal for months on end.

5 Guys is great, love their fries, but who has 12 bucks to burn on a fast food meal? If I'm spending that much, give me a good Chinese buffet or Mexican.

The one by my house use to be great - last few times the burger tasted like "meatloaf"

After one bad experience we gave them another chance - same funny taste - we will not be going back.

I am guessing this place is mixing something into the beef to control cost.

Best burger around me is at Willies Ice House $6.95 includes one side.

Not sure if it qualifies as FF -

I can eat a burger when eating out but I would rather cook them at home. Chopped sirloin, double ground and gently pattied cooked over charcoal. 1/4" fresh tomato and a thin slice of sweet onion. Maybe some cheese, depends on the mood.

I will eat Steak and Shake for fast food, or O'Charlies and Lowrys when dining out with the family but I have to agree with whoever posted that Fudruckers is the best. The Schomberg Ill. Fudruckers is insanely noisy though at lunch but the Dublin Oh. one was a nice family place and fairly quiet. Need to go to the Columbus Zoo again and hit Fudruckers on the way home.

Haven't eaten at Fudrucker's in years. The one in Buffalo, NY was great. Closest one to where I am now was in Nashville, but they closed down. This is a small town so no other big chains around either. 5 Guys is opening one in Clarksville....65 miles away so no joy there. A couple of the local diners cook up a really good burger.
