I did not know our military had these type of lasers

View-able only with night vision.

Why did you think the military wouldn't have infrared lasers? They are not exotic or expensive; every CD player used to have one inside.

"Highly sensitive" military equipment left by Special Forces at a site guarded by Libyans working under a new and unstable government?

Yeah, we'll...ok. Sounds a little like some political grandstanding egged on by Fox.

If it's something that the US Army trains with in Basic training, the enemy probably has it.

This is another such example.

Here's a Russian site that has 'em.

They're not viewable only with night vision.

Hold your camera phone, camcorder, or webcam up to an IR laser light and observe.

Heck, infra-red lasers are old news! I had X-Ray vision goggles back in '67!!

Luckily for the 4th grade girls at St. Mary's Of The Visitation School, the glasses were not nearly as good as advertised...

By "viewable only with night vision" they mean it's not viewable with the naked eye.

With little effort and less technical expertise, one can turn any cd player/remote control laser eye into a heat laser capable of melting through some heavy duty stuff.

I am more surprised at the reaction to them having them then anything else.
