I want one. Will be so easy to find a parking spot at Wal-Mart while getting some nachos.

Sent by psychic paper from the TARDIS.

That must be it, the militarization. It couldn't be about saving some money...

Bingo! How many gallons per mile in that thing?

What is so wrong that uncle is getting rid of them? Either they are fine and Uncle is wasting our money or they aren't and Sam Hewstun is. (Well, your money, not mine.)

Not at this time, but I'm sure they'll pass a law.

That probably is not inexpensive to maintain. But maintaining it is probably still alot less than buying a purpose built armored vehicle.

No more need to chase vehicles. Just park this thing in the middle of the road and let them hit it. Then get out and arrest the criminal.

Sounds like just the thing for an urban police department.

Limitations of the MRAP

MRAP has acquired a well-deserved reputation as the "most survivable" vehicle, with casualty rates at a very low six-percent. However, the heavy weight and large size of the MRAP imposes limitations, including:

•Poor maneuverability makes it difficult, sometimes impossible to use in an urban environment
•Poor off-road performance
•Prone to tipping
•70% of world’s bridges can’t hold MRAPs
•Too wide for many roads
•High fuel consumption—approximately 3 mpg

YEAH, but...........It's almost free. Can't beat free. I wish I could get some "used" Thompson SMG's for free.

I have quite a bit of experience with MRAPS and I'm not too certain all of that is true.

We use it extensively off road in Afghanistan (my experience with it). Our roads are plenty wide for it and since we don't have 3rd world country bridging architecture, I wouldn't be too concerned that 70% of the worlds bridges can't hold it. I'm guessing Texas doesn't rely on Zimbabwe's engineering and construction abilities.

In a big urban fight, it's not the preferred vehicle but I don't envision Dallas turning into Korengal Valley or the Argandhab anytime soon.

At the end of the day, it's a transport carrier. They aren't tanks or infantry fighting vehicles. They are designed to protect the passengers- particularly from IEDs and small arms fire.

Our sheriff's dept got one of these. So far, to the best of my knowledge, it's deployed twice, both times to rural barricaded subjects, blockaded in their home with rifles. It did it's job, and I'm pretty glad we have it:

I am going to go out on a limb here as far as usage costs go, and guess this is something that they may not put 40,000 miles on each year.
