I hardly thing rapping about things like cheetos, school bus rides, and khaki pants are "thug culture"...

Wow, I wonder what people said about me when I was a kid....long hair, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Metallica, etc. t-shirts, etc.

I personally can't stand them and I'll admit I listen to rap but its not something that kids should be listening to. But then again it's Kmart and there just playing to there customers.

Coincidentally, back-to-school hoodies are on sale a Kmart. Nothing to see here, folks.

And a hoodie makes one a thug? I must be the oldest, whitest, thug around... Wow, my wife, the school teacher, she must be a thug too! She even wears one with the school name on it, but she is one of those white hispanics you have to watch out for!

I take it that you have not looked at the article I linked showing that this group was started as an afternoon school program to keep the kids out of trouble?

I could care less about hoodies and rap. Encouraging kids to speak improper English and slang by portraying it as being cool is another thing.

I don't see any thug behavior at all. The commercials are annoying, but that is it.

im glad my daughters are grown and out on their own .personally just about everything on tv DISCUSTS me .

i used to love Discovery channel , animal planet TLC , but now we have utter crap fake reality shows , honey trash boo, tickle, amish mafia, breaking amish, something squatchy , THE LITTLE PEOPLE,

commercials and tv have gone to the gutter . im 44 years old and find the crap utterly DISCUSTING.

THOSE FIRST 2 commercials are 100% inviting thug culture, hell

only 2 white kids i see on them
wearing clothes you cant even wear to school anymore
money floating around, gold chains ,

come on stevie wonder could see this as discusting thug .

I did look at it. Clearly the program is failing. I'm no expert, but the road to staying out of trouble should not include emulating known criminals.

When I have to go searching the internet to figure out how much a hooded sweatshirt costs, they probably didn't do a good job of explaining it to me in the song.

Quote:
And when I’m walkin’ back from recess
E’rebody know me
‘Cause my Hoodie cost a Hami
And Hami is my Homey!
Still think he's saying Hemi and not Hami, but what do I know.

Where do you think rap has it's roots?

Who do you think these kids look up to?

What kind of example are they setting?

As for your hero's:

How many kids were harmed by drugs trying to emulate them?

How many adults are still paying the price for trying to be like them when they were young?

Regards,
Happyguy

This. The simple solution is to not shop at Kmart, and to teach your kids the difference between right and wrong. If your kid starts going ghetto because of what he sees at school or because of a Kmart commercial, then you have failed as a parent.

the difference is ..

being a head banger back in the day , didnt include , killing , benjamins ,gold chains and thug

headbangers just loved their hard rock , drinking and partying

there is a big big difference in hard rock culture and this type of thug culture , further more back when i was in school you act like these kids in these commericals you would get your ass kicked , now you would get shot .

DMX - Ruff Ryders' Anthem - YouTube
They can emulate his musical style and talent, and not emulate his lifestyle.

If we follow your logic, I guess we shouldn't let boys play football, huh?

Again, these kids are singing about snacks, school buses, and pants... not any "Thug culture" in this. It isn't gangsta rap.

Will Smith started as a rapper...is he a thug?

Clearly, glorifying drug use, violence, ghetto culture, ebonics, and promiscuous sex has done such great things for society. Why just look around and see for yourself.

Can you please point out the drug use, sex and drug use in the commercial. I am still having trouble trying to find it.

Please point these out to me in the school bus video...I failed to see them. I did not see any drug use, violence, or sex at all. What you call "ghetto culture" others may refer to as "hip hop culture", with the former being rather derogatory. Not a fan of ebonics, but many sub-cultures have their own language. Gamers and computer geeks have their own, with terms like pwned, camping, AFK... visit the tactical shotguns board here and you will see things like shotty, Remmy, Mossy... My son texts his friends and they use a shorthand style of language, but he knows not to talk to me or text me in the same manner he does his friends.

Is this thread some kind of joke?

Are some of you really so bent out of shape over a k-mart commercial?

Bloody hell. Black and rap doesn't automatically equal ghetto culture.
