New 10mm

Little story first...

Ever since I wanted a 10mm, I've wanted a 1911. Funds forced me into a Witness. It never really suited my tastes and I ended up selling it earlier this year. Looking for something to replace it, I couldn't find any 10mms in my area, so I grabbed a Glock 21 with plans to do a barrel swap and such.

Fast forward two weeks, I was out of town and window shopping a gun store and there it was... Rock Island 1911 in 10mm! I drooled and asked about layaway, but they didn't do it since the frenzy following the shootings cause things sold too quick. I made a promise to myself to come back.

Fast forward a month later, cash in hand, I made a call and they had it in stock. So, I left early this morning and bought my baby. Without further adieu...

Also, saw some HPR ammo. Knew nothing about it, but price was decent. However, everything I've found online shows 180gr, even their website. These are 200gr XTPs. Very odd and no idea what the velocities are supposed to be (guessing 1100~ from their 180gr velocities).

Congrats.

I find that 200 gns, at around 1,000-1,100 is my "comfort zone for most .40+ caliber rounds that will reach it without strain.

Trigger pull is on the heavier side of the specified range (5-6lbs). It's got a bit of take-up, then a nice clean break. Overtravel is adjustable, but as it comes, it's got just a hair I need to get rid of. It's pleasant, if heavy.

I guess I need to bite the bullet and grab a jig and some stones. I've always wanted to try doing a trigger job. On my old RIA GI, I made a custom jig and fitted a beavertail, which turned out quite well. This couldn't be that bad of a job.

Congratulations!!! Nice to see you've found a 1911 in the Right Caliber. Enjoy putzing with the trigger, I'm sure it'll work out just fine.

Sure thing, after I get some time to do that. I also need more ammo. Until I get a heavier recoil spring, EGW FPS, and mainspring, it looks like I'm going to have issues finding brass launched into the stratosphere for handloading.

I probably won't get a formal report until a week or so from now. Busy with work and some other things until then. However, I can still share pics of it and various things...

Polished the barrel hood to make it nicer looking.

Someone ask about head support?
