In Katrina, when cars went under, a lot of them would cut on their headlights, horns, radios, whatever.

Patrol cars that flooded were cutting on their overheads all by themselves.

Dear Chief,
If you recall, I advised about not having a boat to use for lake patrol.....

And they said we would never need that sunroof option while on duty.

Well, the passenger is alive and out of the car instead of clawing for life in the backseat... so you know Teddy wasn't driving this time.

Is that like his "I can't get shot by my own gun because I'm going to unload it first" tactic?

Couldn't be me. Even after it dries out and mold starts growing it will be in far better shape than any vehicle we have...

Except management's...who forbid theirs be used on enforcement.

Pretty much, huh?

The only difference is you actually make a difference.

!

Several years ago, we had a Deputy (Who is now a FBI Agent) that drove his car into a flooded roadway. He crawled his butt out the window to the roof of his patrol car. One of the other Deputies, turned her in car camera to catch the fun and games on video.

The windshield wipers was splashing in the water over the hood and the lightbar was flashing away. It was a neon sign flashing "I am stupid for driving into the flood".

The one of the things that survived was the Panasonic Toughbook. After it dried out, the IT dept fired it up. It still has the red dirt stains all over it.

Don't say that. We all make a difference, in a small way. Just not very significant in the big picture but hopefully, to one person, just one person per shift, we mean all the difference in the world, that is all I ask.

Some things never change between agencies! Our transport vehicles are worn-out vans with dash lights only, while we have nearly brand-new (2012) Impalas, with 360 degree lighting (front, back, and sides), that just sit in the lot for the majority of the time. No cages in them, though.

We use ours as transportation to outlying areas, whilst on duty. Or, as other official use vehicles. Then, occasionally they are used as chase vehicles.
