That is a good resolution that I really need to follow.

Just now seeing this, Okie has always been a man with a heart of gold, who did everything he could to be positive, uplifting, cheerful and friendly. He will truly be missed. I will always remember he always called everyone "my friend". RIP brother.

Have been traveling for work and haven't been on GT in a while. I just saw this thread.

Really sorry to hear about this. Okie was probably my favorite poster on GT.

Okie was always generous with sympathy and kind words. He was sincere in a way most people never manage to be.

Go with God, Okie. We already miss you.

I never met Okie nor corresponded with him, but I've followed his postings over the years I've been a member and lurker here. He's one of those people who, whenever you encounter them (virtually or in person), you're reminded, in a positive way, of all the good qualities you should have in your own life. I think one of the best ways I can honor Okie is to exhibit his good qualities here and wherever I go.

He did, indeed, make a difference.

As I woke today,
I heard them pray.
I'm told of the loss,
For that I'm cross.
Kind and gentle to all,
His tender heart not small.
For those who knew,
His words were true.
You will forever be missed,
I know your forehead The Lord has kissed.
I bid you adieu my friend,
We will meet again at my end.

Will miss you Mark.

The entire time I've been on GT,
There was Okie. Being Okie.

I did not know him that well, but I already miss him.

I always enjoyed reading his posts. I never had the chance to meet him in person but it's obvious he had a major impact on a lot of lives of those he did meet..and those he didn't. RIP Okie.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Okie, but if in real life he was anything like his online persona, GT has lost a wonderful Man. He always brought civility to any conversation he was engaged in. R.I.P. Okie.

Up until now I wasn't aware of any of our 2013 losses. I've been away - I spend too much time here when I allow myself to get immersed, which is easy to do.

My heart is very heavy right now.

When I signed in this morning and didn't see GNG Lounge I was at first a little confused and then it dawned on me. This is just messed up.

Now this is a fitting legacy for the Mayor. That and I'm going to Taco Bell for lunch today. RIP my friend.

I never see a chicken fried steak on a menu without thinking of him and a conversation we had one time. It always made me smile and chuckle, dang it. :(

RIP Okie

Shocking. When I logged on and saw the heading for the Okie Corral, I was stunned. The moments to click the link, and find the thread for info seemed like an eternity.

A few years ago, my step father went into cardiac arrest while in the ER waiting to go to the cath lab. They shocked him and got him back. He said when he expired, the pain went away, and a warm feeling came over him. There was no pain, no stress, no fear. What he described was a perfect tranquility and perfect peace.

If anyone deserves a perfect tranquility and peace, it's Okie.

RIP Okie. You'll be missed.

Real tears here also, I wasn't expecting to cry today over the loss of another guy I only knew through his GT posts and a few PMs.

Although comparing someone to a dog is generally considered an insult, in this case I'm moved by digitspaw's eulogy, because Okie's demonstrated unconditional love for everyone is like a wagging tail. Dog lovers will understand what I can't express here. Okie was just plain glad to see you, even if it's just a reply in a thread.
I remember seeing a picture of him holding Digit like a baby, and they both looked totally comfortable and peaceful and safe together. I hope that pic shows up again.

I'm going to try to more like him and less like me.

It's hard to reply so I'll just post his favorite and his namesake smilie....
