there is a bunch of testing each single firearm has to go through and even if it passes the tests, it still is not a guarantee that they will permit it to market. It is the Attorney General consumer protection act in regards to firearms. total bull****. Glock failed after paying $10,000 per gun not because the guns were not reliable but because the loaded chamber indicator on their extractor were not good enough to pass. Others like Springfield, Wilson, Colt, etc just told the state to eat turd.

the only glock 19's in my state are 2nd gen used 15+ years old and sell for $850. no thanks. new Glocks have been banned for a very long time. They couldn't pass the Attorney General consumer protection safety requirement test.

Thanks,
The only one on your list that I have any experience with, is #3 the Smith MP9c.

I can tell you that this is a great little ccw pistol, but your comment about "any and all purposes, makes me want to pass on the 9mm, and go with the 40sw, or 45acp instead.

While this is all true to the best of my knowledge, I just wanted to add that any Glock, of any generation, can be obtained and owned legally here in Mass. This goes for magazines/capacity as well. There is just a few more hoops to jump through.

#1 Sig 229, Hard to argue with the quality or track record. Parts and mags should be fairly available. Plus the .357 barrel would be a nice addition.

#2 Anything Kussor dislikes. Honestly, his posts read like a Nigerian scam email.

SR1911 Commander since I have the most experience with a Dan Wesson Commander 1911 than all the others.

Thanks,
You haven't listed any real "all purpose" guns or said what you definition of "all purpose" is. What do you use a gun for? If I had to choose from among those, for me, I'd choose either the M&P 40C or the S&W 1911, because they are (a) not Rugers and (b) not 9mm's. While I would consider a M&P 9mm for CCW, especially if it was smaller than the .40 (it isn't), a 9mm isn't very "all purpose" unless CCW and target shooting are the purposes.

Aside from answering your question, if I was really choosing an all purpose handgun, it would likely be a .357 revolver, probably a S&W K or L frame with a 3-4" barrel.

if someone moves to the state and has one, they can sell it to you but you will end up paying a premium. dealers will lose their ffl and be fined if the AG catches them selling any pre 1994 or pre 1996...i forget the year.

Since its my choice....this isn't much of a choice.

I have shot and tried to like 1911s...just don't. I don't reload and going to a range and firing 100 rounds of .45 is to rich for my blood

I have shot and never liked Rugers

Since this isn't a caliber war I can say the .40 has never appealed to me; this said Sigs are probably my favorite gun manufacturer even though lately them seem more concerned with making a gun in every color than a good gun. The 228 is probably my favorite handgun in my collection.

of those choices #3 or #5. I primarily shoot 9 mm, have shot M&Ps and like them. If the 229 was a 9mm it would be my choice...but given these are my choices...#3 or #5 would disappoint me in one way or another so dealer's choice

You don't live in a state; you live in the Commywealth of NZachusetts.

You need to select the gun that best fis your hand, regardless of the model. If it doesn't fit you will not enjoy shooting with it, hence you will not prastick.

Got to admit that the thread title was misleading, just a little bit.

" Gun for any and all purposes in the parking lot of Wally World" would have been a smidge closer.

I'd have to go for the Ruger SR1911 Commander. This absent any 3" .45 models.

Also, choices given us precludes any real hunting caliber handguns (S&W's 586,686,29,629 or Blackhawk/Redhawk) for critter defense.

I pick the SR9C or M&P9C. A do everything weapon should be light, have capacity, a rail, and a good track record. I would go with the SR9C since it has a compact mag and a full size mag with grip sleeve. I haven't shot an M&P so I can't comment on it besides I hear its a Glock with a nicer grip.

M&P 9c. Simple striker operation with aftermarket support= easier/faster repair if it breaks. And I like 9mm.
