Things to do in Branson, MO

My family and I will be going to Branson. What are the don't miss things to see and do in that area? We will probably go up to Springfield, MO one day. I would prefer to stay away from Silver Dollar City. My son is 7 so we have to pick stuff that will fit him too. Thanks.

Silver dollar city is the best part of Branson, unless you like shopping, IMAX, and music variety shows.

Marvel cave, it was cool (50 years ago) when Silver Dollar City was the only attraction in Branson Mo.

I wouldn't go to silver dollar city if someone paid me. They are anti-gun and have helped fund campaigns against pro2a legislation.

If you like country music (real country western, not this pop crap the radio plays today) Pierce Arrow is a good show, beyond that there are hundreds of shows there, find something you like. the baldknobber show is recommended but a lot, but I've never been. If you are a shopper there are several outlet malls.

Traffic can be bad especially on the main drag, but people are courteous and will let you in. Get a map of the back routes to avoid the main drag.

I've been there a couple of times. Branson is mostly for adults. Other than silver dollar city I can't imagine much for a 7 year old to do.

I hate Branson with a passion because the rapacious development over the past decades ruined a beautiful section of the Ozarks. I will disagree with the GT member who said Branson is mostly for adults. You can't turn your head without seeing something kids would like.

Traffic is primarily "LA at rush hour", so make sure you have a full tank of gas. Table Rock Lake and Lake Tannecomo are close by and both have excellent fishing.

I'm not a show attendee, but have been amazed at the Chinese Acrobats performance. Silver Dollar City is okay, especially Marvel Cave, but then as someone already pointed out, I first visited SDC when there was no entrance fee and the founder (the blacksmith) could be seen every day at his shop acting like a blacksmith.

In those days a person could also walk right up and into Old Matt's Cabin. I even remember meeting the last living character in The Shepard of the Hills, Uncle Ike's son. Yeah, I'm advancing in age, I know ...

There's also a live play of the story of Jesus somewhere. It was pretty cool if you're into that.

The Sight & Sound theater is supposed to be neat. I've never been but my wife likes it.

We enjoyed going through the Titanic. There is a lot to see at Bass Pro in Springfield for the kids.

there's yakov's dinner adventure.

I hear they have a nice vegetable medley, and best of all, magnetic dinner trays!

The Dixie Stampede was fun. Think Medieval Times meets Civil War.

The helicopter ride was cool too. Expensive, but I had never been in a helicopter, so I enjoyed it.

My family lives in Branson, though I did not grow up there. Thoughts:

Go to attractions on weekdays, during the day. It's summer so it'll still be busy regardless, but maybe less so.

Gretna and Roark Valley Road are your best friends for dealing with traffic on the Strip, which is godawful.

I know you don't want to go, but your kid would love SDC. White Water is another option, but I don't care for water parks.

What kinds of things do you and your family enjoy? I might be able to give some recommendations if you'll narrow it down for me.

Been over 20 years since I've been there, but the folks were there about five years ago and remarked how much the place had built up. I believe what they did was ride the Ducks and then used it as a base of operations to go to other places like Eureka Springs and the surrounding area. I never liked Silver Dollar City all that much and the theater entertainment seems hokey - Vegas for folks with no teeth, as Dennis Miller said once.

Table rock is awesome if you've got the time to spend a day on the lake.

Pierce Arrow is a must see. Depending on the time of year, two different shows a day. The comic they have is awesome.
