I refuse to add any stickers/decals to my vehicle that implies that I am into firearms, even an NRA decal. I don't want to bring attention to myself or tempt them to break in, etc.

Also I would NOT post my license plates in a public forum- I would seriously remove the pic or blur the plate out! And all those decals on the back window are just SCREAMING= There might be a gun inside my car- come see! Or someone decides to follow you home one day for a future robbery. Not good to advertise -ever! Always carry- never tell.
The minute I read the OP and saw the plate number I thought to myself this is an open invitation to any criminal in or around the Florida Keys to begin looking for a quick and easy score.

I change vehicles so often, that if it isn't strapped to me, it's in the other car.

I have my 638 in my pocket, nothing of value gets left in the car, I think my ipod is the most expensive thing in there.

Rolling twitter account. That's gold, Beer.

Who has that in their sigline already?

Well - I don't agree that it will completely not affect that.

However - I think you are correct in that if you're throwing that much out there you're already increasing the risk a bunch.

I would not. Got over that goober "nothing to hide" mentality after being nice to one too many cops. Nothing to hide, not illegal has nothing to do with it. Getting your weapon seized by an overzealous rookie just playing Show Of Force for the entertainment nuisance of it while I'm delayed further for the exercise ended any further pleasantries. If you want a friend, buy a dog. The police are not your friend.

Best I know it, civil rights should still exist in FL and the other states, including the 4th and 5th Amendments. The last stop I had went something like:

(returning to my car after call in)

Cop: When were you gonna tell me about the concealed weapon permit?
Me: It's not required by VA statute (You have to tell them you have a PERMIT (not the gun) IF they ask in advance. They find out automatically on radio call ins where their mobile terminal asterisks the file with "Driver May Be Legally Armed")
Cop: Well, do you have one on you?
Me: I'm not answering any questions at this time.
Cop: I don't need to see it, I just want to know if you have one, and where it is.
Me: I'm not answering any questions at this time.
Cop: Fine. Sign here.

Cops do not administer your rights. You don't get them only after they read them to you post-arrest. You have them all along. You ALWAYS have the right to remain silent. Not just when they tell you. And the more you use silence, the better. With cops, girlfriends and bosses…it comes in handy a LOT! Treat all three the same. Less is best.

No, he doesn't need to see where it is. No, he doesn't need to know if I have one. If I'm not doing anything wrong with it, its none of his or anyone elses' business. Unless he has visual probable cause that crime has been or is about to be committed, it's not his concern. Otherwise its called overzealous and nosey. Alternatively, its a fishing expedition.

Lacking probable cause, he can neither search nor have grounds to obtain a warrant. And if he did, he wouldn't have to ask. He'd be within his rights to search and seize or arrest. So, if they even ask, by default they are on the fishing expedition, thereby also wasting your time. That is NOT what we pay them for.

Real cops know its not the permit holders you have to be worried about. Its' the yuckapucks without permits, or that one maggot in 10,000 who'd lean out the window with a shotgun who's the real trouble.

For that reason, I also carry always and never tell:

1. I would never publicize my tag on the internet
2. Despite membership in several pro gun orgs, NO STICKERS. Not interested in the attention of cops or thieves.

Not insecure. Nothing to prove. Don't have to tell the world what I have in weapons, or otherwise. Much is prevented by silence or lack of show. Just sayin, that's how I roll. Low profile. Grey man theory. Nothing to see here, just move along...

Even though you say the rifle is only in the car during range trips, with all those stickers on the car etc I'd obviously peg you for an enthusiast off the bat, who probably has a vast collection of firearms. I wouldn't break into your car, I'd follow you home and break into your house the next night you were at work, and take the collection.

This is all theoretical of course, since I just don't have time to make it to Florida this week

DW,
If I understand your MO you would only do this setup while traveling and to and from range. To me a simpler setup that could be removed from the vehicle with one trip would be better. Thats alot of crap to lug.

Lot's of people carry long guns in their vehicle You would suprised how many people have a trunk guns...
I would be stone cold shocked if more than a handful would be uhhh....thoughtless enough....post a pic of the car, tag and inventory.

In a SHTF situation, some preppers will serve as non-voluntary supply points for others.
