The Washington comPost must be overjoyed at this story.

Quote:
FBI officials said Monday that they foiled a terrorism attack that was being planned in a small western Minnesota town, but they offered no details about the exact targets of the attack — or the motive of the man accused of having a cache of explosives and weapons in a mobile home.
Translation: They don't really know if there was actually going to be an attack.

after authorities searched a mobile home he’s associated with and found Molotov cocktails, suspected pipe bombs and firearms, according to a court affidavit.

Hmm...a molotov cocktail is a glass bottle with gasoline in it and a rag. One normally wouldnt store such a device because, well, gasoline evaporates quite quickly when not capped. So, he had gasoline and a glass bottles and rags.

I highly suspect I have glass bottles (in fact I do). I use rags for cleaning things. I have probably 3 gallons of gasoline in a gas can.

I even have an extra full 20 lb propane bottle (it suck running out of propane in the middle of grilling without a spare).

What is a "suspected pipe bomb"? Some pipe from the hardware store for gas lines and some misc screws and nails?

What's this dude's GT username? Couldn't resist.

So questions:

Could he theoretically be declared an enemy combatant and sent to GITMO in lieu of trial? Or is that only if the guy is overseas and doing stuff? How's that work?

Are those Army troops or agents in that photo?

Here's here in the US, so no, he wouldn't be sent to GITMO.

http://chemistry.about.com/od/fireco...ovcocktail.htm

"It is a simple type of improvised incendiary device. The simplest form consists of a stoppered bottle filled with a combustible liquid, such as gasoline or high-proof alcohol, with a fuel-soaked rag stuffed in the neck of the bottle."

Okay thanks. Be interesting to see what all comes of this and how it gets put through the legal process.

Just asking for you to discontinue your pattern of speaking of things you have no basis of knowledge about (such as Molotov Cocktails here).

Respectfully submitted.

I'd like to see what, if anything, his neighbors have to say about the man.

To me this guy sounds like a bad actor and until more/divergent information comes in I'm thinking a bad guy was taken off the street.

That said my brother, dad and me would have been swarmed by The National Guard under present standards. We used to blast post holes with 1/4, 1/2 and full sticks of dynamite - big holes in rock with amfo. We always kept 55 gallon barrels of gasoline and diesel, plus brake and trans fluid and all manner of solvents including toluene. Of course we always had ammonium nitrate and other fertilizers for the above amfo and fertilizer. The horror.

Farmers blew up stuff for years without bothering anyone, then the world changed (or rather the people in it).

I'm curious as to what Buford and Co. were alleged to have targeted. Says the general public was not at risk so maybe he was mad at city hall.

Maybe they were going to get all methed up and pull a Red Dawn town raid.

Probably more arrests to follow as he gets to talking.

Is the government not comprised of people?
