I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't take any drugs that the Doctor doesn't prescribe.

My father was a very serious alcoholic who was abusive to both me and my mother and I didn't want to grow up and be like him.

Both of my parents were chain smokers and that was another example I decided not to follow.

Drugs...I've seen what it did to my schoolmates and never had any interest.

Same here. I don't hate alcohol but it simply does nothing that makes me feel better. And I absolutely detest cigarette smoke.

I don't like the taste of beer. When we go out with friends I will have enough drinks to get a slight buzz and then I shut it down. I probably get "drunk" or really tipsy a couple of times a year. Now that I think about it, I haven't had any alcohol in about 3 months.

I'm fortunate that I have never had the addictive gene. However, I have watched close friends who have seemed to really struggle with it. Several are shocked I can go months without drinking and I'm shocked that they can't.

Another little known fact that I learned right here on GT!

No booze or caffeine. I don't feel the need for it. I also have a family history of diabetes and I tend to gain weight.

As a soldier, I drank some, but not enough to get stupid. I drank a lot of coffee trying to compensate for sleep deprivation.

Now, I don't consume either. There is no religious thing behind it.

Also very interesting that so many people seem to equate drinking to drunk.

I used to do a little but the little wouldn't do it so the little got more and more.

I really like being drunk...a lot. No better feeling in the world, IMO.

But I didn't like the person I saw in the mirror hungover day after day

I was afraid I wasn't going to be the father my children deserved if I kept drinking. I can look them each in the eye and tell them that I have been sober every single day of their life.

Some people won't understand why this is so important to me, but some of you will because you've been there too.

Relax bub. Reread my post. Never said alcohol should be banned or that other people should not be allowed to drink. Just that I will have no part of it.

Exactly the same courtesy we would extend to those who don't like guns.

I can count on one hand the number of drinks I have a year, just don't like it. I am however, a ridiculous over the top foodie.

Yep. And that's exactly why I quit. It appears many associate failure with utter complete failure with one's whole self. Not my view. There is no failure, only lessons learned. Fortunately, and like many others here, I learn from others' mistakes too.

I used to be against it. I guess the DARE program had an effect on me, or so much of my family being alcoholics did it. My parents never drank when I was a kid. Someone gave my parents a can of beer once and it must have stayed in the fridge for a year or more before my brother in law drank it. I figured out that not everyone that drinks becomes and alcoholic later.

I've known more poor decisions to be made while under the influence than any other reason. Both mine and others.

I don't drink at all.
It's the way I was raised and also a religious thing.

I am in the Navy, plenty of friends that drink. No judging, do your own thing as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else imo. Plus, they know they can count on me for a ride if they decide to really tie one on, so they dig it. lol
