GEN 3 G21 BTF issue.

I have consistantly been getting btf from my new g21 gen 3 ive used five different brands of 230gr fmj ammo and it doesnt make a difference. I had the ejector changed on Friday and it hasnt made a difference. I called glock a week before and they claim no problems . I really dont want to send this pistol back to Glock but I dont know what else to do.

Did you by any chance mean to say you had the extractor changed? The change that has most frequently solved such problems has been the extractor; I know there is a new ejector for the 9mm, but I don't know of any change to the .45 ejector. With the slide off the frame, will the extractor hold an empty case tight against the breech face?

Do you have a lot of experience with similar Glock pistols?

I had a G30 for 8 years as well as several others with no issues and I have a 30S that works fine with the same ammo I used in the 21 my dealer changed out what I thought was the extractor but the label on the package with my orig part in it says its a glock trigger housing with ejector 033.

In answer to your question regarding a empty shell casing yes it does hold it firmly against the breech face.

They won't send an extractor to you, but they might send one to your dealer if he's an armorer.

Great . . . only they can swap in a couple dozen extractors 'til they find one that works properly.

I have a G3 G21SF (July 2011) and the ejector itself is marked 8196-2. I have a spare Glock Trigger Housing w/Ejector and it uses the same ejector.

I shoot only reloads and they aren't high power so, from time to time (1 in 50?), I get one to the forehead. I wouldn't call ejection robust when compared to my 1911s or Sig P220 but they all clear the gun. I have never had a failure to do anything!

If I wanted to experiment, I would reduce the recoil spring by 1# or so and see what happened. But I don't...

I suspect if I were to shoot some of the hot SD loads, like Hornady Critical Defense or Speer Gold Dots, maybe Remington Golden Saber, the ejection would be just fine. I wouldn't expect WWB or Federal Champion to make any improvement. That stuff is pretty wimpy.

None of which means anything if there is something wrong with your G21, and I'm not trying to place the blame on ammo, but before I sent it off, I would try to find some seriously stout SD ammo and see if the ejection improved.

If it did, the alternates would be simple: shoot stout ammo (expensive) or experiment with the RSA spring rating. Neither alternative includes frequent flyer miles.

If I could get ahold of some better ammo I would try it. I barely have enough. To load 2 mags for carry.

I have a Gen4 21 test fired 22Oct12. I also had very weak ejection with low powered range ammo, no malfunctions. I bought some Winchseter Ranger-T ammo and put 150rds thru it with, and had strong ejection. Ejection was 6' to my 4 O'Clock. But IMHO it is a shame that you have to use expensive S/D, or duty ammo to get strong ejection from the G21. Some of use don't have 2 incomes and make $100,000 a year to feed the G21 right.

Exactly, I shot my G30S the same days with the same ammo and it ran fine.

But even if you send it to Glock, it's just going to come back with 'no trouble found'. I don't know what ammo they are going to use nor do I know if they even care where the brass winds up. If it ejects, it ejects!

I realize buying ammo is an issue and good quality SD ammo is completely outrageous. I bought a box of Winchester Ranger Law Enforcement Ammunition just to load up 3 mags. It was $45.50 + tax. Unbelieveable!

Nevertheless, I don't reload SD ammo so I had to pay full price and I was real glad I found it at the range. Nobody else had anything.

According to Wolff, the G21 spring is rated at 17#. They make a 15# and 16# (plus others) that cost about $8.

They have a calibration pack with 12#, 14# and 15# springs for about $19.

I think I would go with the 16# and see if there was any improvement.

The downside is that the springs don't include the guide rod. A Wolff guide rod is $25.

Wolff also includes a new striker spring of factory rating.

http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?...ID=1&mID=5#117

If the recoil spring is too light, the gun will come out of battery while the striker is being cocked. This can get to be a nightmare chasing spring rates. So, I would just try to drop 1#, maybe 2# - no more. If things didn't improve, oh well, it was worth the cost of the experiment for the education.

My gen 3 G21 smacks brass against my prescription glasses maybe 5-7 out of 14 and it's kinda annoying, but it works so oh well.

With what ammo?

Ammo selection will probably make a difference.

update.

I was contacted by Glock today. They are sending me a brand new gun. apparently even though they say they cant find anything wrong with it they did experience the weak ejection and it is probably due to weak factory ammo they agreed that is not acceptable . My take is they tried to fix it with different parts and since it didnt work they are gonna replace it.
