price check

I found a nice little newengland 20ga (single shot) at the LGS but they want $189?? Isnt that kinda high for a newengland? I don't mind paying that but if its a rip, I don't want to get taken.

I'd go $100 and not a penny more. If I was rich enough to wipe my ass with $100 bills and not worry about it I'd offer $120 at the most.

I was thinking along the same lines but I have not looked at shotguns in many years. I have a habit at thinking in y2k prices. I am not made of money but I will try a offer of $120 out the door and see what they say. Thanks for the advice.

Is it new or used? If it is new then Dealer Cost on that ends up around $150 once the shop get it shipped to them. So to offer him $125 on a firearm that cost him $150 is an insult. Knowing the dealer cost can help you make a fair offer. If it is used then, yes, that is high.

It cost money to be in business and keep that shop open. He needs to make at least 15% on a new gun.

I thought it was a used gun but he never did specify new or used.

$170 is too high. I bought one for my son yrs ago new for $79.

Check the barrel for rust/pitting. We keep ours in a safe with dehumidifier in CA where not much moisture and it still developed some rust/pitting. I clean and put a layer of oil in the barrels of all the guns we have. None of the others show signs of rusting, so I was thinking it was something to do with the metallurgy in this brand.

Might take a close look just in case...
