Too cold today and drizzly to go out but she walked her laps and was up in a chair with company for a long time today. She's snoozing now and every time I close my eyes something beeps.

I hate those beeps with a passion. Nights are the worst. I swear (but I usually don't brag about swearing) that at night they call to each other up and down the hallways.

Lol. That's a great image. My mom is sneaky, you'll THINK she's asleep and she won't be. Also, she's very hard of hearing, but you can't count in that. She found out a MAJOR family secret ( a good one, but I can't tell as all interested parties don't know yet) that way. We thought she was out cold and she cocks open one eye and says " did I hear what I think I just heard?!"

Her cell phone rang really loudly a few mins ago and I grabbed it before it woke her. Or so I thought. She never budged, breathing never changed, but as soon as I hung up she asked who it was.

Can I come over and videotape that scene?

How's she doing today?

I'm dealing with horrible guilt. I started not feeling great by the time we left her yesterday and all night I was in a full on flare of my GI stuff. I stayed home today with my ten year old who is feeling cruddy in a different way,and have slept all day. In fact I'm about to go back to sleep now.

Mom got word this morning that she s going for round two of chemo. Round one made headway, but not enough. She sounds good about it, as she truly didn't think one round was going to do the trick, and I think was afraid it hadn't worked at all.

Sooo, buckling up for another three weeks or so. Expect two to be really awful again.

Making headway, that's good. Cling to that, and you'll both get through it. And when you don't feel strong, come in here and let us be strong for you.

Today wasn't a great day for her and we don't really know why. Makes me a little more anxious about tomorrow. On the plus side ( I guess) the second round of chemo is a little weaker than the first.

Unfortunately in life you have to take the good with the bad. She's lucky to have such a loving family. Hope you're taking care of yourself, too.

Sorry to hear that. It is like that with a declining family member. You have the good days and the bad days. Just treasure in your heart the good days and the good memories. Use them to make it through the other ones.

I haven't read the whole thread, but you did mention elsewhere that you are on steroids. you probably already know, but sometimes it helps to be reminded, that those can really mess with your emotions.

I lost my mother earlier this year after a 6 month battle with cancer, so I can relate. Yesterday was yesterday- nothing can change that. Focus on doing what is right today. Sometimes, you get to the point where you can't even think about what you are supposed to do the next hour, so just do whatever you are supposed to do this minute. If you are supposed to be eating breakfast, then eat breakfast- don't even think about lunch or supper. God bless.

Funny you mention the steroids. I actually checked in with my rheum when this first happened because at one point I had a major adrenaline dump and felt terrible. She is so terrific, she made a slot for me that day and checked my bp and did an EKG and mostly just listened to me. I'm watching my dose but I'm low enough as of right now that its probably ok.

Today dawned a little brighter so she soldiers on. I know there is a lot if concern about the misuse of the word hero, but I have no qualms using it in reference to my mom.

No doubt you'll deny it, but I'm sure you two are feeding off each others strength and courage.

I hope so. I hope I'm helping make this easier for her in some way. I really do.

I'm sure you are. Friends IRL an online who've stuck besides me have made a god difference to me, it's only got to be even more since it's family.

Speaking of friends, my friend I've had since 7th grade was there ahead of me today, gave mom a shower and took me to lunch. A Rainbow sister I haven't seen in 20 years came one day, helped mom, brought cookies, another came yesterday and visited with us. I have had friends bring us meals, offer to run errands for me, etc. I am sincerely humbled by how blessed I am.

As the old saying goes, when times are tough you learn who your true friends are. Glad you're getting support during this time.
