Yes (many in fact).
I have tried different flats, and pre-bent 80% receivers.
Best results are with AKBuilder flats using Curtis' (owner of AKbuilder.com) bending jig.
Makes bending a perfect receiver (every time) a 2 minute project.
Which parts kit have I NOT used.
Polish tantal, PMKMS
Tula AKS-74u, AKM
And the list goes on.
What you should ask yourself is, "what do I personally want?"
This will lead you in the right direction for kit selection.
Many, many choices
What ammo? 7.62x39, 5.45x39, 5.56x45, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R.....
Solid stock or folder, and if folder do I want under or side?
Barrel length? 16,18,21,24,12.5,10.5,8?
What is available? Kits are not as plentiful as they used to be especially with original barrels, and the price keeps going up. Part of your decision will be based on what you can obtain, and price you're willing to pay.
Building is addictive (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!)
Like Lay's potato chips. Bet you can't build just one.
Something different about shooting a gun you built with your own two hands. It will always mean more to you than one you buy.
(Old) picture of my shop (I have built many more since).
