10 mm for SHTF

If you had 3000 rds of full power 10mm, would it be your SHTF caliber.

Nope...mines a 6.8 SPC AR-15!

On a serious note: My G20 is the ultimate combat weapon as far as pistols go. (to me)

If I was on foot in a SHTF senario, my G17 would get the nod strictly because of the ammo availabilty.

Yes for an extra hand-gun...for sure...and all rounds dont have to be "Full Power" Example The Hornady `factory`ammo....works very well...155gr....180gr & 200gr...IMO....one can have some underwood to mix it up if they choose too....Full power loads dont always mean deeper penetration....There is a nice youtube video a few posted here with Hornady vs Underwood 180gr (10mm) from a stock G20....interesting results.

Just having that many rounds will create a SHTF scenario. God forbid you actually shoot them.

If 10mm was already my preference for a go-to cartridge, and if 10mm was already my daily carry, then I wouldn't change my "SHTF cartridge" to something different as a result of not having enough ammunition, if I had 3k quality rounds of it.

I also have g17 g21,29,30,29,23,32. Socom 16 sig516
I keep on hearing I will not carry the 10 because of ammo availability. But I would just throw the g17 in may bag ,and that would end that argument about 10mm availability. Just have enough rds for it. Just want to hear my glock talk brothers point of view.

If I had 3,000 rounds of full power anything it would be my SHTF caliber. I think anyone can say the same, unless they have more than 3,000 rounds of something else that they like better. Whatever you have ammunition for is, by default, your SHTF caliber. Just sayin'.

I guess that depends on what people mean when they say something is their "SHTF caliber".

Why do you have a specific "SHTF caliber"? Why wouldn't it be the same as your current go-to/EDC caliber?

No, it wouldn't for me. Not all circumstances are the same everywhere.

Exactly. It's like the saying, "The best gun is the one you have on you." The best caliber for SHTF is the one you have ammunition for, because the other calibers don't matter if you don't have ammunition for them. And by that definition, my SHTF calibers are .45 acp and .223/5.56.

At the moment if I leave my little ranch and go into town my carry gun and holster are a compromise for concealment sake. I do not have a 10mm as small as a Charter Bulldog or a S&W 908 (my most common EDCs.)

If some type of SHTF occurs First of all I have a hunch that concealment will somehow not be an issue, at least in my area.

If some type of SHTF occurs the danger, if it exists, will be more likely to involve more bad guys that one could expect around here currently.

If some type of SHTF occurs I may need to harvest deer or other game here abouts while doing the chores, something I am not concerned with at the moment, being law biding as long as there is law and my family fed.

Now, I fully intend to have long gun handy, but "handy" is a relative term and a long gun doesn't fit on your hip. When you are chopping wood, saddling a horse, and dozens of other things that require two hands.

And to add to that,

It is my D&^^% choice, that's why.

I like the 10mm in this situation though, because when I went to Cabelas last week it was pretty much the last semi auto cartridge left on the shelves. There was an errant box of Winchester PDX but there wasn't much more than that.
