Ready for my first 1911

I have been a long time glacier but now want to own a 1911. Im looking for a keeper.

STI? Para? Colt?

Where do I get one in the Philippines?

PB Dionisio has Remingtons?

Federal Gun has Colt?

Those are what I found on the net so far. They may not have them.

Can anyone help?

Aside from the foreign brands you've mentioned, local ones are:

Armscor's Armscor 1911's
Twin Pines' Rock Island Armory 1911's
Weapons Systems Corp's MAC 1911's
Shooters' SAM 1911's
(Floro used to offer Federal 1911 refurbs, but idk now)

"Keeper" is a relative term, and depends on what particular blend of
"tool", "sporting equipment", "investment" and "bargain" you will view
your firearm as. The order of the list above reflects my particular
preferences/needs. I'm sure you will have your own.

are you going to compete? or pang carry?
Kung may budget, have a good gunsmith build you one
Kung limited budget , get a factory made

Ill always carry my Glock. Im just starting my collection of having at least one firearm per type. One revolver, shotgun, long arm, etc.

So no, it is not for carry. It is for shooting once in a while and for admiring. I was thinking Para but for 1911, I would like to get a single stack.

Maybe a Colt or Kimber, I guess.

If you just need a true 1911 specimen then you can't go wrong with a Colt.

Shortcut everything about the 1911 and go for the Colt, specifically a blued Colt 70 series reissue. Slap on a pair of sambar stag grips on it and call it a day. =)

Talk to Federal or Lock n' Load.

Single stack ba or double stack?

Para's are good at a budget double stack though limited aftermarket parts, which your gunsmith can fabricate for you anyway on a made to order basis.

Not as much as one would like such as those available for STI's and the SVI's but I suppose adequate enough, aftermarket triggers are what I had in mind I guess...

70 series over 80, any day...

But if he's collecting taxonomically, he might consider going
balls-out purist and hunt down a milspec M1911A1 or A2, in
park/phosphate or blued, with all arsenal graffiti in place.

Federal has Colts at lower prices than in other stores, up to the Combat Elite and Gold Cup. Last time I checked prices started at P71k for the basic blued Government Model.

I know there are other 1911 brands, which may be cheaper with the same features, but there is nothing like a Colt. I "bit the bullet" so to speak, and got one to celebrate the 1911's centennial with.

And if you happen to stumble into a pristine specimen with a solitary "S" on the slide, be sure to PM me.

Those things are dangerous and I'll do you a favor by swapping my Colt for that.

Nilagyan ng guide rod, mag well or extended ek ek

Ain't that the sad, sad truth...

A couple of years ago, a BoG-dweller was selling a
Union Switch & Signal M1911A1... that had had its
frontstrap checkered ...plus some other 'tacticool'
mods. I mean, gamers will have their fun, but with
so many current-production 1911's to mess with,
why ruin a US&S collectible?

Band of Glockers

Maybe it was already that way before the guy had
it, but it still made me weep.

While I'm at it...
My memory's pretty shot, but I'd swear I've seen a
pic of a similarly-butchered Singer 1911. I'd love to
repost that bit of eye-rape, juuuuuust for Alexii.

Here is something to think about.. 1911 is like a sexy hooker great to look at but will not be there for you when you need her the most.. (speaking figuratively) a Glock is like a Fat UGLY chick. Shes always going to take care of you when you need her..... Cant beat the reloability of a Glock..... Go with or stay with Glock.v :D. YOU CANT GO WRONG!!!!!!

Lol, welcome, cmr.

Just discussing a prevalence of old-warhorse firearms
in the Philippines. Allegra was noting that not all of 'em
have been ruined via 'modifications': some Thompsons
(M1928), well maintained and still milspec, are currently
owned/used by Philippine reservists.

I agree that a Glock is dependable, but a 1911 can be
just as reliable, if you put in the time. After all, they
say that a relationship takes work, haha.
