North Carolina Folks (need safe hotel off i95)

Brother and sister and I traveling from Pa to Orlando. I need a safe town in North Carolia(off i95) that's roughly half way.

I was thinking Fayettville, but it seems crime ridden.

Can anyone reccomend a real nice area in NC with hotels right off i95?)

Thankfully my carry permit is valid in NC, but I really want safe hotel.

Thanks!
Chuck

I have stayed a few times in Fayettvile at the Holiday Inn. It is a little older but nice. There is a bar and restraunt there with a decent breakfast and a Ruby Tuesdays or something right next door.

There are several hotels on the same exit but I can't remember which exit it is.

GPS has made me lazy on my travels.

A buddy of mine stationed at Ft. Bragg called it Fayette-Nam. Draw your own conclusions.

Exit 49, Cedar Creek Road. Seems clean and safe enough for a night's stay. Doubt there are any other safer spots on I-95 in NC. Double Tree, Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn are in the same place and around the same price range. You could find more expensive motels in the I-95 Fayetteville area.

Geez, its not like you're running an expedition into Somalia. Stay at any good quality hotel and you'll be fine.

This is true. But the only place I've ever been robbed was at a motel off I-95 in Florence SC. It was a learning experience and one of the things I learned was to stay away from Florence

If you don't see the signs it probably isn't safe for you to be driving without a seeing-eye dog

I used to think that way until my truck got broken into in Jacksonville, FL. I was parked right up front too. They took about $10,000 worth.

Now I try to pick the better hotels to stay in and make it a point to park under lights.

A guy I was working/traveling with got a nice (according to him) prostitute there one time.

He also enjoyed Rockingham, NC.

Stay away from Fayetteville unless you are armed. It is the lurkers that roam the parking lots at night or early morning. There is not enough security and lighting at some of the hotels.

We should change the name of this forum to ParanoidTalk. Geez. It's a hotel in North Carolina. Pick one that looks decent and go to bed!

I agree.

There are robberies and stuff at the finest hotels in the world. I've been lucky enough to get to do quite a bit of travel. Don't stay in a dump and statistics say you'll be just fine.

Why are you taking I-95? That's absolutely the worst way to get from PA to Orlando.

Yeah, is there even another road that runs north to south direct to Florida that has more than 1 lane?

Oh, please. There are several interstates that will get you there. Even if they're longer, they will be way faster and more pleasant. Ever tried to go through DC at 7 am or 5 pm on a weekday? Same for Baltimore.

Fayetteville isn't the best place in the world but your way over thinking it. Your spending the night, not moving in. Pick a quality hotel and call it a night.

Actually it's about the only way from Philadelphia.

Yes, Somalia would be much safer. Have you ever been to Fayetteville?

Fayetteville has a bad rep. 20-30 years ago it was know for it's Hookers, bars and pawn shops. I have heard they have cleaned it up alot.

I would stay outside of the city. There is a reason they call it Fayette-Nam.

You're coming from Philadelphia? There is no place that bad in North Carolina.

Aside from Atlanta, Birmingham and a few places in Florida, there is no place in the south where you need to worry very much about the neighborhood your hotel is in. That's more a northern thing.

Yes, multiple times. I drove to FL from CT last Feb. I also drive to Myrtle Beach every year.

You take the Balt.Wash. pkway and avoid a lot of the traffic though those two areas.

We stayed here on our trip to FL last year.
