The 59-year-old commissioner was charged with influencing a witness and obstructing law enforcement in an investigation, the Glynn County Sheriff's Office said. Brooks was arrested Thursday, posted $5,000 bond and left jail Friday afternoon.
According to his attorney, Brooks told the family of De'Marquise Elkins, 17, that they didn't have to talk to police.

Hmmmm.... where have I heard "don't talk to the police" before...???

Let the GTer who is without sin cast the first stone....

I kind of like the full court press/take no prisoners approach they're taking to this case. I wonder if some of these will hold up in court though...

That said, by the time the courts step in and get some of these folks off the hook, maybe some others will be intimidated into cooperating to avoid similar charges, and help move the investigation forward faster. It will all work out in the end, if the charges are valid, great, if not, they'll be dropped eventually, and it will be clear whether such tactics are legal in the future or not.

For the record, I'm referring to charging the councilman for telling them they don't have to talk to the cops. Any family members helping them dispose of the gun, hide from the cops, etc, should be charged as accessories after the fact, interfering with an investigation, aiding a fugitve, etc, anything they can think of, as appropriate. Throw the book at them.
