OMG!!! MILITARIZATION OF THE POLICE. WHY WOULD ANYONE NEED BDUs IN THE US?!?!

Now that that's out of the way, it seems like multicam is the new wave. All the teams around my area use navy blue BDU's, with the exception of the State's team. They're RG if I remember.

Od green it hides the best and keeps you from having to also buy camo.. It looks sharp and easy to get
A uniform appearance. Black and blue are the worst looks for any operation they are too dark at night at too much contrast in the field.

Black and navy also suck out loud in the heat of the summer. Standing on a perimeter in 100+ degree weather for hours is a safety factor if nothing else. OD actually makes a big difference.

Camelbak.

Besides... looking cool is the first consideration. All else comes second... a long distant second.

5.11 TDU, dark blue. Plate carriers OD green. Usually use black tac vests over soft armor. Dark blue and green clash.....

Depends on the area and your budget. Multicam is awesome, but it's also significantly more expensive than other patterns/colors. If you don't have the budget for that, I'd also go with OD green. ATACS FG is also pretty interesting, but hard to get matching gear for.

Our team uses OD green, for callouts and the heavy armor. For training, it's personally owned camo pants (most wear woodland, one wears woodland digital) and black t-shirts with yellow letters (also personally owned). Small SO. No sniper.

PD uses black, I believe, all the time.

As was posted, in the dark, the best colors to not be seen in (from 5.11 available BDU's) are OD green, sierra, charcoal, coyote brown, dark blue (the darker the worse it is), then black.

In other news, we are going away from our navy BDU's with a glow in the dark baby blue shirt, to charcoal 5.11 BDU top and bottom. I think it will be kickass as I work night shift and hate how bright the blue tops are, at night. Our navy pants are very good, in the dark, but they decided to go a whole new uniform. We're also getting everything sewn on intead of having shiny breasts. If they just switch to nylon instead of basket weave, I'll finally be rid of all refelctives, in the dark.

IMHO, OD makes more sense.
I don't know about SWAT, but I wear ACU's. Seems like ACU blends and breaks up shapes better in an urban environment (not that it's good, but better than OD) and there is a ton of equipment readily available and cheap. The velcro also makes it easier for officers to replace uniforms without paying for sewing each time.

I just looked at ATACS, that FG is awesome! The LE grey looks uber-stupid.

Haha... 'CDI' (Chicks Dig It) factor should always be first consideration.

Thanks for the replies. I will do a follow-up post when the decision is made. Hopefully we (training staff) will have some input and it won't be decided by people that have no idea, which is what sometimes happens
