What pattern for SWAT/SORT bdu's

I am presently with a small S.O. (60 Deputies), and we are starting a SWAT/SORT team. Equipt ordering is starting, and we are just starting to form the team and screening applicants. Tomorrow will be the third training day and everyone is really taking an interest, and so far all seem to enjoy the basics of movements and fundamentals. We haven't yet decided on a color scheme (pattern) for the BDU's and was wondering what the local LE Agency in your area is using for their SWAT/SORT Team.
I spent 30 years with a big city PD (15 years as SWAT/CS/operator), and we used navy blue BDU'S, then after about 10 years went to the black BDU's. After retiring from the PD, I ended up at a local SO which had 300 Deputies, and the SORT BDU's were OD green.
The new SO I now work for has not had any type of SRT SORT or SWAT unit (really hasn't needed one YET),
and we are slowly getting things organized and moving.
Please advise what your Dept uses in the BDU Dept.

Regional team uses plain OD. Big city uses Army surplus ACU.

IMHO, OD makes more sense.

The first Dept I was with used woodland camo BDu's for all training exercises, and black for the real deal....the only thing I was told is the woodland camo wouldn't show grass and other stains received during training....didn't really make a whole lotta sense to me, but I was just the new guy....

My current Dept. is part of the county ASORT team and they wear slate grey BDU's with black duty gear and plate carriers...

The primary SWAT team I'm with used to use woodland camo but we switched after finding out that woodland camo is hard to find for body armor. We switched to plain OD green. It's easy to outfit the entire team in this. Plus the other two SWAT groups use OD green so that way everyone matches.

The other SWAT team that I'm getting on uses one of the new ACU color scheme.

Not an officer but I have competed in 'precision rifle' competition at the range with the county SWAT team..

They dress in OD coveralls or dark blue/black coveralls.

Black is not a natural "void" of color. It actually stands out pretty awful in low light when compared to OD green. If you have the budget, get multi-cam. It blends very well, but the items I've seen tend to be spendier. Otherwise go OD green.

For some neighborhoods wouldn't a jumpsuit that resembled a waistline below the tucus, about 6" of tacky underwear and a hoody over a wife beater make more sense??

What environment will you predominantly be working in? What's the vegetation like where you are? These are the things I would consider before determining which pattern to use.

I don't believe that camo is necessary for entry guys, but is a must for snipers. Our entry guys wear OD, and our snipers wear mulitcam (they used to wear woodlands).

Ou PD's team wears some sort of digital camo. No idea who picked it or why.

Isn't the most important factor, "How cool does this uniform make me look?"

Black or navy IMO.

My agency wears WWII looking OD greens that look ridiculous. A neighboring agency wears even worse 1980's style Army camo coveralls, seriously. Looks straight out of Bubba's Army/Navy surplus store.

The previous agency I worked for used multicam BDU's or a varient there of with black plate carriers. Prior to that it was black vest carriers and olive drab BDU's.

My current department has the darker version of ATACS camo.

I was on the SRT for a former department. We had two uniforms at the time. We used OD green and black depending on what we were doing. I was with a city PD. A lot of the rural counties use OD green from my experience.

vests are OD green and multicam for everything else. We did have the army acu digital and i did not like it and am glad we have switched. I would say go with a solid color on your vests like black or OD so if you guys decide to change to another clothing color down the road it should match. That is why we went with the OD green color for our level 4 vests.

OD green for my buddy's department, navy for the regional here, and I've seen urban camo, but maybe that was just for training because it's pretty hokey.

LAPD wears Navy, LASD wears OD, black is actually a pretty bad color for uniforms, even if you want to be a ninja with gelled hair.

Have you looked at the Flecktarn pattern?

We use OD for callouts, and woodland camo for training just because it used to be easier to get at less cost. We do a lot more training than actual ops, so having a less-expensive training uniform made sense. That is going away. Woodland is becoming more rare, and is now the same price as everything else. I imagine we will just go straight OD (actually our vests are more of a ranger green) in the near future.

I would like to see us allow multicam for snipers in rural settings, as that seems to be what everyone makes gear for and it is a pretty good base camo. It is the easiest camo to find. ACU is getting more rare, and sucks as a camo anyway (unless you are in a gravel pit).

Black and Dark Navy really stand out at night for some reason. We used to use navy uniforms and black vests, but have moved away from that many years ago. Were I you, I'd be all about OD or Ranger Green.
