As usual, threads like this reinforce who the guys are that I would want to hang out with and those who I would avoid like the plague, is demonstrated beautifully.

Gotta love GNG.

I have a 10 lbs mini long hair that will not back down. He sounds much bigger than he is.

Dogs get taken from campgrounds in the Colorado National Monument all the time.

The lion failed to recognize how finely trained the dog was or would not have gone near him. The owner was probably training the dog in front of the lion just to piss the lion off for commenting on the dangers of wienies on the streets.

An older lady who lives next to a buddy of mine had a tiny yapper--a pomeranian or something like that. One day at dusk a great horned owl killed it and ate it.

Around here, in the country outside of Santa Fe, if you stupidly let your cat or small dog outside, either a coyote or an owl will eat it within 30 minutes. Simply a fact of country life.

Mountain Lions that move down into the 'burbs" and start chasing dogs and sheep and kids instead of deer are usually older cats with bad teeth who no longer have what it takes to bring down a deer or their more normal meals. They are universally very elusive creatures and go out of their way to avoid humans. But when old age and their health catches up they head to easier meals and that means domestic livestock, dogs, and sometimes even people. When I lived in El Paso there was a lion event about every other year where an old cat made his way down the the mountains and decided that Labrador Retriever tasted better than Venison. When they put down the cat about 100% of the time they find its old and infirm. But bottom line is--man is part of nature--come into man's territory and kill man's animals and you risk death at the hands of man....its all VERY natural from my view.

In other news--its no longer Caturday and not all is well in Kittyland.
Excellent post, funny and true. It's tough being a penultimate predator. Dead if you do, dead if you don't.

Man is a part of nature, not apart from it, ignore at your peril.

There's always another out there bigger, better, faster, tougher. Beware, be prepared, and fight like hell all the way down.

I hope the kitty got a bad belly ache...or perhaps a fecal impaction from the dog's collar. That is the reason you should be armed when out for a walk or walking your dog. I year or two ago, Governor Rick Perry (Texas) was out jogging with his daughter's dog when he had a coyote encounter. Governor Perry shot the critter with his Ruger LCP. nuff said.

^^^^^^FACT^^^^^^^

I lived in Eldorado for about a year. Many nights going to work, I saw several bobcats and coyotes within 20 feet of my front door. We have two wieners and managed not to lose one to local wildlife. Gotta be vigilant.

That owl for looking for work? Neighbor across the street has a little white something with a 24/7 yip yip yip, and I can't get a clear shot at it.

Open carry could have prevented this! Can't believe I got that in first for once.

Been especially dry in El Paso past few years. The mountain lions have been coming down to places like car washes. Never ends well for the cat.

The fact that you think talking about a mountain lion doing mountain lion ****, in the mountains, is somehow "hippie babble", shows how far off your liberal-O-meter is.

Acknowledging that people are encoraching on the territory of mountain lions, and creating the encounters, is a typically conservative attitude. IE conservationism.

But keep throwing out the "hippie" card, you might get it right one day. You sound like a typical city-dweller, absolutely certain that how you define conservatism is correct.
Amen!!!!

Do you know why that was..........
It's because you applied common sense and a sense of responsibility, got your pets / loved ones.

Common sense is no longer common.
