Tomorrow is not going to be a good day.

They think I've got lyme disease and I'm going for a bunch of tests tomorrow morning. I can't eat anything after 11:00 tonight, so my pain tolerance is going to be way down.
And the first thing I do when I get up in the morning is take a pain killer for my back, which makes me feel really freakin sick if I don't take it with food.
I'm not really liking my options here.

Frank-any idea how you might have gotten it? I mean I know you can get it from ticks so I guess I'm really asking do you spend a lot of times outdoors, or work outdoors where you would be in contact with tics?

I will say a prayer for you buddy. I've read a little bit about it and if caught early they can treat it. I've read that some people can be cured of it, but others will have it for life. Good luck. Post back and let us know how the tests go.

I've spent a lot of time in the woods. I've had lots of deer ticks on me.

About 11:00am. It's just a walk-in place, so it's really up to me.

Frank,

Tick diseases are pretty serious. Back in 1993 I contracted Rock Mountain Spotted Fever and never felt so ill in my life. Hang in there, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Part of the reason I posted that. They probably want to do a complete check on you, if you have to get some tests done why not get them all done? BTW from what I remember the ELISA and the Western Blot are about 30-40% inaccurate.

Frank, I hope it's not something serious, especially Lyme disease.

Back in '83 I spent lots of time in the jungles of Columbia, South America. I picked off my body creatures I've never seen before, or since. It's a freaking miracle I didn't catch something.

Lyme disease can be quite treatable now. One of my closest friends contracted it in the early 1980s and it was not properly diagnosed for over a year, all the while he had Bell's Palsy and rheumatoid arthritis, not knowing why. It forced him to take a medical retirement when he was 55. He's 82 now and once again vigorous but it took several years of treatment to get it under control. Spend some serious time searching for the best doctor(s) you can find in that arena.

Best of luck to you.

Frank if you need to talk or anything let me know. If it is Lyme the biggest thing is to start hitting it hard ASAP. Co-infections can be extremely problematic, in my case because of the symptoms being mixed the doctor doesn't always know which is worse, the Lyme or the co-infection. Good luck tomorrow.

I'm going to a lyme disease specialist next week. His approach s that the tests are so expensive and results so erratic that he doesn't mess with them. If he thinks you might have the disease he puts you on meds and sees what happens. The antibiotics do nothing to a person who doesn't have the disease.
Apparently it is pretty rough if you do have the disease as the meds work.

prayers to you , we camp and hike, and i farm and always outside . i ve had spotted fever 8 times and im 44 .

only had the bullseye rash once . i had a lyme titer show up in bloodwork . but doxy for 30 days took care of it .

im a tick magnet period. always get ticks

i was on doxy so long my jaw and teeth hurt so bad it made you cry . then i had to take pain killers.

every spring and summer , i get tested and treated no matter what

me and tick fever are good friends and it sucks bad . i literally go to doctor everytime i pull a tick off me .

its so bad the doc prescribe me meds before im ever bit , because every year i get it

plus i spray my boots and pants and clothes with bug spray but i always find a tick .

It depends on how long you've had it. The longer you've had it the more bugs are in your system the worse your reaction will be. Until you experience it you won't understand it, and I will not freak you out with my experiences. Look up the Jarisch Herxheimer reaction, that's what the doctor is talking about. The easy explanation is he's using the bacteria itself to tell whether it's there or not, as they die off they release toxins and the toxins are what cause the reaction.

Best of luck! Suggest you study-up on Lyme Disease, don't trust that your Doctor knows everything.

Oh, this really does sound like a good time.

" It usually manifests within a few hours of the first dose of antibiotic asfever, chills, rigor, hypotension, headache, tachycardia, hyperventilation, vasodilation with flushing, myalgia (muscle pain), exacerbation of skin lesions and anxiety. The intensity of the reaction indicates the severity of inflammation. Reaction commonly occurs within two hours of drug administration, but is usually self-limiting."

I wanted you to know the symptoms in case it does happen, that way you won't go nuts if you do have that reaction. Now that you know what can happen just ignore it. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't. You'll only worry yourself thinking about it. Just relax and enjoy yourself for now. BTW ask your Lyme doctor which probiotic he recommends and take it 2 hours after the antibiotic, it's easier to stay ahead of replacing the good bacteria then it is to try and gain ground.

Thanks. It's probably just a lack of alcohol or something.

I'm guessing they'll put you on Doxycycline, Frank. Keep out of the sun with that stuff. I burned myself horribly when I was being treated.

Keep you mind busy. Get a good book, (I finally went back to The Good Book, but YMMV) and immerse yourself in it. Keep your mind off the illness.

Keep in mind that with every passing minute, it's one minute closer to being well again.

Stay UP! It'll be hard. Depression is common, and the effects of the disease will only be amplified if you're down. Smile. Always.

Along the same tune- watch your pain meds and alcohol. It's REAL easy to fall into that trap. They do not make the depression issues any easier. And climbing out can be all the harder.

You can crawl out of this, buddy. I did. And now, NOTHING can hurt me! When you come out on the other side, you'll appreciate life even more, and everything in the world will seem better.

Keep the faith!
