What's the big deal? Same as shooting a cow or a deer. More humane than catching a fish. WAY more humane than stuffing 5 chickens in a 1 square foot cage for their entire egg laying lives.

Why would a person working for a slughterhouse, in the hopes of being able to process horses, film himself telling animal rights people to eff themselves, then shooting a horse and post it online?

What was the point he was trying to make? And how did that work out for him?

Some people are just really into their work. Funeral home workers, obgyn's, and dentists do things, um... like this all the time.

Seems disrespectful. If an animal is to be used for food, do what you have to do, but respect that animal that is losing its life to sustain yours.

I've been to dozens of horse sales and saw pens full of horses going to slaughter. It may be unfortunate, but it beats the hell out of horses or any other animals for that matter starving to death when their owners can't afford to feed them.

Slaughter facilities aren't pretty, I work for a plant that processes 10,000 + head of hogs per day. I am responsible for euthanizing half of the hogs we process in a day.

As long as its done humanely, I don't have a problem with it.

By the way I also own horses....

Possibly a bit distateful in the way he video taped it and posted it online, but I don't really think any laws were broken, but I very well could be mistaken on that part. If anything, he could have potentially violated company policy for making the company look bad, if someone finds out the name of the place he works for.

"A very graphic video shows a New Mexico man shooting a horse at point-blank range."

Would they rather him shoot it from 100 yards away?

We have a BLM facility near here that stores excess horses. They are feed and shipped to NV for long term "care" at tax payer's expense. A lot of money spent for horses just to feel good.

WE ARE BROKE to a tune of $16,700,000,000.00.

If the French want to eat horse meat we should sell them the excess horses before they die of old age.

While not for me, I have no problem with people killing and eating horses. What I do have a problem with, is killing any animal, not just horses, just to prove or make a point, or for sport.

Quick question, how does your Co kill them? I helped a little on a farm as a kid and it was always a .22.

Which raises the question, why would you film yourself doing it, unless you are a little off?

I was raised around a pork processing plant. An old guy from plant took me through the different methods they used over the years killing pigs.

I think the methods in order it has evolved from: to:
  1. roping their back legs, lifting them and cutting their throats while they hung upside down to bleed out.
  2. running them up a gate and off a plank into boiling water. this also loosened the hide for easier skinning
  3. shooting them in the head with a 22
  4. using a pnuematic pistol that shoots a rod into their head (like that in the movie "NoCountry for Old Men")
That has been 30 years ago when he told me that, I have no idea what commercial pork processing plants do now.

We use cO2 stunners. (Butina's) unless the animals are showing signs of stress and they are dispatched with captive bolt guns.

We are strictly regulated on animal handling by in house audits, and USDA. Mistreatment of any form is not tolerated. Those pigs are our babies and stressed animals result in crappy product

This video was done in poor taste. However, I have no problem with horse meat for human consumption.

Love the manly "woman" animal rights activists critiquing the video. She must be bummed having the last name of Bonar.
