.223 / 5.56 ammo prices
Always had several black rifles in .223 and in .308. Never really paid that much attention to prices because I have family that are active LEOs and always got me .223 & .308 for free. Well...not so much anymore.
Before the panic and madness hit us, what were the average going prices for these two calibers? Not match stuff...stuff for hunting, SD, and paper. Some Zombie stuff as well I guess. I have a good stock, but have been avoiding the range because I don't want to burn all that I have left. So, I just want to know what normal prices SHOULD be (no metal cases...metal is for my AKs). Thanks fellas.

M193 for .40c a round is(was) decent when available. It's all I try to get in quantity, unless there's a deal on M855 for the same. I prefer M193.

Last year I was buying .308 FMJ for $12-15/20 and Federal GMM for $20/20. Barnes Vor-tx .308 was $40/20(superpremium SD and hunting). Fiocchi loaded .223 Vmax was $11/20, Federal 50 grain tipped varmint was $10/20 and m193 could be had for $350/1000 when I shopped around.

I'm buying Independence 5.56 at Academy for $9.99/20. It was $8.99/20 until a few weeks ago. One box at a time, but they usually have a bunch, so I go to the one by home, the one by work at lunch, and one in between on the way home. It's slow, but I just keep on, and occasionally find .22lr, .380, .45Auto, etc. at reasonable prices. Still haven't seen 9mm, as it goes between 8am and 9am when they do get some in, and I have this pesky job...

I just wanna see Wolf again for $229/1000 shipped. Damned shame, because those prices weren't even that long ago...

In Nov, 55gr 5.56 was about $.32/rd 62gr was $.38/rd. Your basic Federal XM ammo.
I haven't bought ammo since the beginning of Dec. Just can't afford the insane prices. I will not shoot crap wolf or reloaded ammo at the prices they are selling for. I rather not shoot & wait it out.

To put into perspective, the best prices I've paid so far this year for half-case quantities:
M193 = .68/rd
M855 = .75/rd
Pretty much double of what it was 6 months ago, unfortunately. I refuse to pay $1.00+/rd for non-match rounds, but many websites and people are trying to sell regular M193/M855 for over a dollar per round. It sucks.

Yeah & when you contact people that are selling ammo & mags to maybe get at pre panic prices they are all about the $ & just wont talk to you.
I learned over the last few months that most gun online sellers are only selling to make $. The don't care about there fellow shooters. They can still make $ at pre panic prices but choose to be pigs.

No! Businesses are trying to make money? How dare they!
Items are worth what people are willing to pay for them. If you are going to get all pissed off, get all pissed off at your fellow shooters who are willing to pay more than you for that ammo.

I used to be able to get good prices on quality .223 reloads
$20.61 for 50 Nov-Dec
$27.43 for 50 Jan-Feb
$36.70 for 50 Currently
I might as well go buy match ammo for $1 a round now. :(

At the end of last year, local places had 420rd ammo cans of 855 for between $149-$179. 500rds of 193 for around the same price.

Yeah, 420 rounds of the 855 from Palmetto ran me $140 plus shipping last year.
Problem is now that nothing is in stock. Things will come around.
Assault weapons ban came off even the Dem version of legislation...people will calm down and stop hording eventually. But the right approach is to wait for prices to come down to normal, and THEN stock up....

Well, I have a rather large chunk of land down south in Bama and a few different agencies use my land to perform different kinds of practice drills. I even get to play with some of their new toys they test.
I don't charge them, all I ask is that they let me handle the firearms. Sometimes they leave me a case or two of ammo. So is it considered "free"....well, depends on how you look at it. I make them burgers and hotdogs when I know they are coming.
I never ask them for anything....I'm just glad I can help them out where I can.
