The local Academy is packed full of ammo, though 9mm and .22 is the least, still just stacks of them. It lasts a bit due to only being able to buy 1 box of each type of ammo for a total of 3 boxes.

That's good news. That was unheard of before.

It's funny how from area to area ammo availability is so different, I know from a Wal-Mart employee in my area that they will keep .22 ammo under the counter.....family and friends are getting first chance....strictly against policy, but I am sure it happens elsewhere also. Red River Ammo.com and Freedom Munitions.com usually have bulk 9mm, 40 and 45acp available on a steady basis, .223 is hit and miss, you might try them and see ??

Here in north central IL I can find plenty of 40, 44, 45, 380, and most other pistol calibers especially if run down to Peoria. This is excluding 9mm.

I haven't seen any 22 lr or 22 mag. A lot of rifle calibers are hit or miss.

Only thing you can't find around here at Wal Mart, or anywhere for that matter, is 22LR. Ironic because the Olin plant that manufactures Winchester 22LR is less than 100 miles from here in Oxford.

Looking better in FL

I was able to get a couple of boxes of Winchester 9mm at Wal-Mart a couple of days ago for $24.95/100 round box. It was aprox 8pm. Have been seeing more in stock at the range for $30 bucks for the Russian stuff....no thanks, I'll wait.

I was at the local Wal-Mart the other day and stopped by the sporting goods department to see if they still had empty shelves. There were a few boxes of the higher end specialty ammo (i.e. ammo so ridiculously priced that even people totally without ammo would not buy it) and there were a couple of boxes of oddball calibers that were available, but it was fairly empty.

I reload for every firearm that I own, so it's not that big of deal for me. PowderValley apparently got a new shipment of powders in and I placed and order the other day for 50 lbs of various powders. That will give me probably close to 100 lbs of powder at home and 30K of various primers. I've got a few hundred pounds of lead also and I cast for everything from .223 to .45-70.

I think I'm set until we get that illegal squatter out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Too bad the Secret Service agents did not take an oath to defend the Constitution like those of us in the military did. All they are doing is *enabling* treason.

It's getting better

The ammo shortage will loosen up when I'm able to walk into Cabela's and buy their 22LR ammo can special. Twice.

Ammo supply has changed drastically in just the last 6 weeks. I'm thinking we are getting close to seeing an end to this. The ammo at Academy and wal-mart is lasting into the next day, which has been unheard of all year.

I think it will be all over for the most part in a few months with the exception of maybe a few calibers. 22LR will hold out until the bitter end.

BTW, gun stores are close to fully stocked now. Of course, 22LR is the ugly duckling of the bunch.

I'm starting to see some components-powder and primers-on the shelves. Ammo is still pretty problematic unless you shoot .17HMR, pricey .30-06, or .300WSM.

Officially over

I'm calling the ammo shortage officially over.

I just picked up 250 rounds of 10mm 180grn JHP online for $95 - that's 38c/round

FWIW - I really don't understand why anybody goes to a store to buy ammo at all. Its much easier to buy on-line and get it delivered Even better it cuts the hoarder/reseller/scalper out of the equation.

To me, it'll be over when Wal Mart has
something other than shotshells on the shelf.

Walked in Academy today and they had about 40 boxes of American Eagle 223 gray tipped 50 gn varmit for $12.99/box. I didn't feel like even buying my allotted single box. I'm still waiting to load up on federal or remington 223 fmj when all this slows down. I like the stuff that's about 35 cents/round.

What would you like the SS to do, exactly?

I see JHPs all over online, I'm looking for target ammo, so if you have a web site that sells cheap range ammo go ahead and let me know, otherwise it's hardly "over".

Pretty soon I'm just going to the range and paying whatever they want, not shooting since November is just getting ****ing ridiculous.

Just curious, but what brand of 10mm ammo was that?

That is an insanely good price.
