G23 Question

I have got a Glock 27 and have a chance to pick up an early Gen 3(I think) G23 for a very reasonable price. I can see the advantage of having 2 guns in the same caliber and being able to use the 23 mags in the 27. However part of me thinks the 2 pistols are very similar. What do y'all think?

I have a G19 and a G26. They are both very different shooting experiences in my opinion. Love them both. I'd go for it.

G23 for mall, movies and dinner. G27 for fishing, running and bike riding.

It will feel really strange after handling a 9/40 frame.

I had a 27 but found I could carry a 23 just as easy as the 27. 23 has full grip and more capacity. Sold the 27. I carry a 23 for duty so I have great fighting pistol for off duty too, all is good. I would say if it is a good price for the 23, get it.

Carry/shoot them both and decide what you really want. Both are great guns and you will probably end up keeping them both, as many do.

As for the 30, save your pennies after buying the 23, because the 30 is a keeper. Glocks tend to multiple and the wife can not tell them apart so she may think you only have one. Good luck.

I agree with you, OP. Which is why I have the G26 and the G17.

It's either G17 and G19 for carry or
G17 or G26 for carry.

You have a carry piece already so I would either pick up a G22 or G35....

I have the three gun combo! A 22, 23 and 27... Carry the 23 on your hip and the 27 on your ankle....I do every day, might take a little getting used to, but works well for me....

Get the 23, and save up for the 30. The 23 uses same ammo, mags, and some holsters as the 27. The 30 will be a better choice when ammo costs/availability come back down, and extra mags/holsters are reasonable/available.

Plus, it simply makes sense to have a backup/spare so similar to each other....

Nothing wrong about adding the G23 to your stable. I have a G27 and two G23's, all gen3's. Since my primary carry gun is one of my G23's, the other G23 is a backup for it in case I ever have to use my primary G23 and it is taken for evidence. Both are modded the same and both feel and shoot the same.

I have a G23 and next on my list is a G27 in Gen3 or Gen4 whatever I can find. I feel it is a good idea to have more than 1 gun and having both firing the same caliber and mags that can swap to smaller models appeals to me. I EDC my G23 but will most likely carry the G27 more once I get one.

There isn't that much size difference between the 27 and 23. I would get the 22 and you can also use those mags in the 27.

Funny. There's quite a bit of size difference between my G27 and my G23's.

G23 for sure. It's cool that with Glocks, you can have a Range/IDPA/winter/summer carry system, and all will accept the magazines from the full-size.

For me the 23/27 is a great combo, I have a 9mm conversion barrel I bought for the 23 and it also works great in my 27. Buy the 23 and then in 6 months or when the new factor wears off, take care of you 45 cal fix.

I'd go for it. I've been over this issue time and time again with myself, asking if there's really enough difference to justify it. But, it's not a big deal really. The G27 is smaller and will simply carry better. The G23 is a great all-around size and frankly does everything very well.

I'm sort of the opposite, I have a Gen4 G23, but just bought a Gen4 G27. It's not really going to do anything the G23 doesn't, but it does have some advantages and the sub-compacts IMHO really do shoot just as good if not better than any other size, plus I like smaller guns.

I did skip the G22 though since I have a G35.
