What's the best cheapest ammo?

What are you're opinions on the best cheapest ammo to buy for target shooting with a G22?

I guess what I'm asking is, what are you using that isn't crap but not expensive either?

Is it really getting that bad? Is ammo running short?

I don't know if "best" is a good descriptor of this ammo, but the Russian / Communist-bloc made TULA, RWS and Wolf really aren't that bad. Steel case and can't be reloaded. Some folks think the steel case prematurely wears the extractor (but the cost of that part vs. the savings on ammo is negligable, IMO...) and these rounds seem just a bit "snappier" than other rounds. That might be subjective but the ammo is OK, IMO.

I just wouldn't use a steady diet of it. But at $9-15 a box of 50 (depends on caliber) it is good for target and range use.

So is steel better than the brass rounds? For wear or in general?

or is brass better than steel?

Blazer aluminum and my new favorite Remington UMC value packs of 115 gr hollowpoints. Of course I haven't seen either in a couple of months. Or bullets or powder. I can get primers and even saw a few cases last weekend but no bullets or powder.

I have shot WWB in a variety of calibers for years now and have been happy. That said, I will shoot what I can find and thus far I have been able to stay stocked with WWB.

I have been using Miwall reloads for about 11 years - 9mm flavor - but i would use the .40 with no hesitation.

Reasonable price, the hard part is getting it! The lines at the Gun Show are typically very long, and they sell out rapidly.

They don't do web sales (to my knowledge) but have always been worth the wait in line!

Check their site for the next appearance in your neighborhood:

Hope that helps!

Went to a local gun show yesterday. Ammo prices are ridiculous. Most are marked up 2-3 times what it was a couple months before Newtown shootings and all the hysteria started. I have been telling people to stock up years ago but most figured it would always be available. The law of supply and demand still works!

I would say that if you can find a box of .40 for less than say $17 it probably is a good deal. Your Glock probably will function fine with about anything that you can find at this point.

Same here. I'll shoot anything $25/50 rounds or less. If its more I don't shoot. Only exception is the expensive Speer GDHPs in my carry guns.

Some people don't like the steel case stuff and I agree, I'd shoot it only if that's all I could get.

The best cheapest ammunition is that which I load at my loading bench. When and if this blows over one should give some thought to getting into reloading, take control of your ammunition quality and it's supply. SJ 40

Brass is better IMO. Reloadable. And easier on extractor.

Sent from my dumb phone which may have misspelled some words.

I agree.

My LGS has been getting some ammo in on a regular bases. But they are limiting it to 1 to 3 boxes a day depending caliber and what they get in. Not great prices but not extreme either. I'm just happy to find it and get it. I did get 7 boxes of Federal champion 9mm at Walmart just over a month ago. But nothing there since.

Heres my LGS score in the last couple weeks. The .22LR are CCI Mini Mags(I remember getting it for $5.99 a 100 on sale at GM about a year ago).

I like Fiocchi and so does my G17... never had a problem

However, winchester, lawman, blazer, S&B, American eagle are all fine... literally whatever you can find for a decent price will be fine

only federal champion red box has given me a problem, just too weak of a load to cycle reliably... could have been that specific lot or that my glock wasnt broken in enough yet
