Was called a weirdo yesterday by a girl.

Yesterday,it was warm,so me,my buddy, and his girlfriend went fishing on the Tallapoosa river.
Anyways,my buddy hooks and lands a decent sized softshelled
turtle and that was about all we caught for the day.

My buddy wanted to eat the turtle, but had no idea how to process it.However,he knew I had butchered dozens of turtles.I went to retrieve my turtle cleaning tools from my truck and that's when his girlfriend called me a weirdo.

When she said that,it really got me unsettled. This is a girl from a rural background and she's thinks it weird that I would carry knives and channel locks fishing?

I cleaned the turtle, but I then told my friend that I wouldn't go out with him again if he brought her.
I honestly don't understand a girl like that.
I would not have gotten so upset if it was a city girl that said that, but this was a country girl that got squeamish about butchering.

Did I over react?

Was it the tools or that you were cutting up a turtle? Turtles are one of those divisive animals. Game or potential pet.

Probably should have come back at her with "I'm rubber and you're glue".

That would have shown her.

Yes, you overreacted. You don't declare that you are not going fishing if she is present again. That is something a girl would do. You don't do that to a friend. You should have just waited for the next invite, then declined -- repeat as needed.

I think you're a weirdo because apparently your offended that this girl thinks you're a weirdo. I can't tell from your post if you're old and crotchety or young and dumb? Yes you overreacted. Seriously,? you told your buddy you wouldn't hang out with him if he brings his girl that gets a little wacky when it comes to slaughtering turtles???!!! There are underlying issues here.

Did she call you a weirdo because you said "Turtle cleaning kit" or you said a channel locks and knife in your vehicle?

It was a spiny. It's really not that different than a snapper, just a little bit more fishy and a little mushier.

I used to do nuisance work removing turtles from farm ponds.
I just thought turtle cleaning tools sounded more professional.

It was/is common to catch soft shell and eat in West Virginia. I don't know the specific species or name. We just called them soft shell turtles. They had very long necks and a snout for a nose. This is pretty much what I remember them looking like.

I think I remember some people also called them 'green mud turtles'.

If you think that's bad, your buddy and his GF are/were probably talking and laughing about you, your over reaction and cleaning kit. Probably told their friends about it, too. But, hey, at least they're thinking about you.

A knife is a knife and channel locks are mechanical tools, but when they are used together on a turtle, they are a "turtle cleaning kit" I understand it. Just like I have used channel locks to take a Dutch oven off the coals. At that moment the pliers are part of my "cooking" kit.
