The ultimate snubbie

At least for me it is. I reeled in a excellent example of the Python 2-1/2" yesterday. It is from the first year of production for that barrel length 1963. And to quote the seller " fit, finish, and workmanship is outstanding". I decided I had waited long enough to grab one and they certainly are not getting any cheaper. Most now seem to start at around 1800 and go up from there. To get one of the 1963 models was just icing on a very sweet cake! Sorry about the pictures but its all I have at the moment. I promise more later. Enjoy!

That's beautiful.

Pythons are addicting. I've got six of them, but would love a 2.5" model.

Good deal, I'm not saying anything new here but so many people regard it as the Cadillac/Rolls Royce of revolvers. I'd call it an admire a lot and shoot sparingly. Not something to run hundreds of heavy .357 loads through. Don

Don't worry it will be used sparingly and with mostly .38 loads. The .357 rounds are just not a lot of fun to shoot in my opinion. Lots of noise and recoil.

A quick story about why I wanted a Python in 2.5" barrel. Back in the early eighties I had just gotten married and had nothing in the way of handguns or much of anything else for that matter. But a friend told me about someone who had some guns for sale. I needed something for home protection so I went to see the gentleman. He opened up his safe and the very first thing he offered me was a 2.5" Python. I remember how shiney it was and how smooth it was when I cocked the hammer, but it looked a little odd to me then. Kinda ungainly. (Young and dumb.) So I turned it down and bought the next gun he showed me. A S&W Model 15 with Hogue rubber grips, possibly the most common gun in the USA. I think I paid about 80 dollars for it then. Who knows what I could have gotten the Python for. After all, they were still making them then. So that is why I wanted a chance to buy one now. If we only knew then what we know now... LOL.

Very nice! And I have to guess between the length and age that is probably one of the rarer ones.

I don't know how rare they are. But if you do a search on Pythons on GB you will get many hits over 30 page last time I looked. But narrow it down to Python 2.5" and you might get 30 items from 1200-3000+. So ones for sale are certainly scarce.

Very nice. Very rare.

I have a 4", 6" and 8" python. I would love to have a snubby.

I do have a S&W 586 L-Comp 7 shot 357 with a 3" barrel. It's gonna have to do for now.

I love my wife. This is why I got her Colt Agent.

Men who hate their wives get them same size guns with one fewer round available.

Here's one I had, also from the first year of production. It didn't look near as nice as yours...

I still have the original grips that I took off of it.

Yeah, I passed up two opportunities to buy one locally.

One was a mint condition model from 1964.

Very nice for sure, but I wouldn't call them very rare.

Very rare is when you look for a pistol on Gunbroker and maybe see one once or twice a year with basically zero chance of finding one locally.

There are always several 2.5" Pythons on Gunbroker, usually a couple dozen on a daily basis. The 3" Python is much more rare, but even those can normally be found on GB with no trouble (they're just very expensive).

Python Elites are "rare" as well, but, again, there are usually two or three on Gunbroker daily.

Pythons are my favorite revolvers by far, but I don't consider them rare by any means.
