.45=1911 9mm=???
So, if the 1911 is the .45 gun of choice (not to everyone but for this post you know what I mean) and will be known for the .45 gun for ever and ever. Then what is the equivalent for 9mm???
I'm kind of deciding what to get for my next $500-1000 dollar investment in a gun and want to take my time deciding as I buy a gun to keep basically forever. I could see buying a 1911 but like the idea of cheaper ammo and still want to investigate the 9mm avenue. I already have a glock 23 (.40 S&w) and do not want another glock. Its a great gun so far (500 rounds deep so far) but I want something different to play with than an identical gun in another caliber.
So anyone feel free to let me know what you think?

When I think of M1911, I think of .38 Super and not any other caliber.
When I think of 9mm, the first thing that pops in my mind is a SIG Sauer P225.

Browning Hi-Power is the classic 9mm.
Just get an old one.....the new ones are not so good.

The 9mm "Luger"! The round was invented for it.
If going modern, the other choice not stated above is the Beretta 92.

The Luger. It was released in 1897-1901 based on region. Many people are not aware it was based on a American design. The Browning was a much later design and is much closer to the "modern" handgun designs

That's why the Hi-Power is the classic.
The Luger is simply another category of weapon.....apples and oranges.

Beretta M9, CZ75, or the Sig 226 would be my recommendations. They all have a different feel to the grip, I'd handle a few and see what feels good in your hands. They have all proven to be outstanding service 9's.

If it was me, I'd get the P226! But I think the answer to your question is the hi power.

When I think...
9mm: Glock 17 Gen 2, Beretta 92, P226, P239, P225
.40: USP Compact
.357 SIG: P229
.45: 1911, USP .45
10mm: Glock 20
Yeah. I don't have a lot of imagination on this topic.

When I thought of 9mm, I thought of the term "wonder 9". Than Browning Hi Power comes to mind.

The Browning Hi-Power for sure
There are some other classics like the S&W 39 and Sig P225, but I don't think they are even close to the HP.

I think the Browning HP is synonymous with 9mm history at least that's what us "old timers" remember. Back to the future from here and some will probably say Glock 17.

I agree with the Hi Power but I think the S&W Model 59 deserves some honorable mention based on the history and evolution of transition from revolvers to pistols here in the US.

I agree BUT I remember when the original 39 series was considered "the P-38 done right" and it was the first DA auto and the first in 9mm to be purchased by a PD, but the 59 was groundbreaking in a different respect. When it came out there were only 2 other double stack 9s, the Highpower and the MAB, but the 59 is still kind of "second generation" groundbreaking.
IMO, if it weren't for the highpower and the 39 leading the way, (and the history of both designs in VN played a part) the 9mm might not have ever become popular in the US.
