The 2010 incident was particularly nasty, with SK losing a ship and that SK island was shelled killing people there.

Now, you have 2 new leaders since that incident:
the North has a new, untested son of a former leader--seemingly being directed by his military.
The South has it's first female president--just elected--of the conservative party. She replaces a president that was viewed as weak for not being more forceful with the NK's in 2010.

So, new leaders on both sides, with lots of bad blood between them that only goes back a couple of years.
One miscalculation--on either side--and that border could get real hot, fast.
Great insight... Thanks for the analysis.

It's not MAD - N Korea isn't Russia.

I think Obama's actions are intentional. He does not want the US to be thought of as a "Super Power". He is working hard to change that stature, and NK (along with other nations) recognize his goal. Oddly enough, the only ones who fail to recognize it are the dolts that voted him into office.

Guarantee that most Obama voters couldn't find North Korea on a map.

From today's Economist

The last paragraph really seemed to cover the subject--the rhetoric has gotten so hot on this, it will be hard for all to back away and not lose face.

Are you talking american "boomers"? All of them.

I have no clue, but i'm willing to bet a good amount of money we have a few of them in the area, hell it's not like it would take very many of them to turn that country into a parking lot with how many nukes one sub can carry. And it's not like North Korea has a particularly good navy that could actually detect, let alone do anything about a nuclear sub chillin' off the coast.

The only thing concerning me is the youth of their leader...his father had ruled for a long time and was alive during the Korean war, he liked to talk smack sure but he wouldn't have wanted a full on war. The little one however has never seen war and likely grew up believing that NK is invincible. So he probably really does think that a war would go like he thinks it does. Which is the most dangerous of all, a misguided person who really believes what they're doing

Uh, no.

A single nuclear weapon detonating on the west coast (all NK can hit) wouldn't end America anymore than crashing a couple planes full of our citizens did.

It would however, end NK.

Since NK is probably a major source of counterfeit US currency, why do they need cash from us?
