Glock 30/36

I read all the hype on the new Glock 30S and putting a 36 slide on a 30 frame. I recently bought a used Glock 30 gen 2.5 and just for the fun of it, put my G36 slide on the 30 frame. It makes me wonder why Glock made the 30's slide so beefy and why it wasn't the same size of the G36 to begin with. Anyone have any ideas?

The original design of the Glock 30 was based on a shared design for the 10mm Auto. Those that want to shoot .45 Super, 10mm Auto, .40 Super, and .460 Rowland using the G30 pistol frame and slide are very grateful to Gaston for his foresight.

None of those options are feasible with the G30S.

The weight and stiffness of the thicker G30 slide and barrel tame recoil substantially and add to the amazing accuracy of the G30. Some GSSF match competitors put a G30 slide on a G36 frame to reap the benefits of the G30 upper design.

GRT45 nailed it...some actually testing the G30 and then a G30S seem to think the G30S is a bit snappier and may be a bit less accurate...some say not enough difference to let it bother you and the G30S is lighter enough than the G30 to make a difference...

When faced with this choice myself last month I chose the G30 Gen4 but must admit I was unable to try all versions before I bought it...went to the range and mine shot like a dream and it carries pretty well too...YMMV...good luck with your choice...

How much did you pay for that G4 30? I finally saw one at a LGS yesterday, but for $675 before tax I held off. I also really would like to see/hold the 30s side by side before making the jump.

I'm an LEO so I got it at that price (Blue Label - made Jan 28, 2013) and had them add Trijicon night sights...about $600.00 with Illinois sales tax...

That's interesting, I just bought a Gen 4 G30 in NY for $599 +tax, I was interested in a G30S or SF but couldn't find one, I read somewhere that the Gen 4 has the same frame dimensions as the Gen 3 SF ( without a backstrap installed) and being as how in NY I have only 6 weeks before the Mag ban I jumped on it. I purposely avoided looking up pricing so I wouldn't feel like I got ripped off.
