I thought that the cartridge was a 9mmP until I read the first reply.

The specific Gold Dot .357sig round you mention is listed at 1350 fps by Speer. It's known as the "Limited Penetration" round and features the five-petal Gold Dot .357sig bullet in contrast to the 6-petal .357sig bullet in product number 54234.

So, IYO is the 53918 insufficient in penetration or just not as effective as 54234?

I believe either one would be effective for self-defense and here's tnoutdoors' test of the
, which achieved 14.5" penetration and .572" expansion.

I think the 54234 product is the ammo issued to most LEO carrying .357sig, with the 52918 product specifically requested by a federal agency (don't recall which one).

Unit 1069, thanks for your time and the video. I think I have a new favorite ccw. NC DMV issued SIG P229 of 2004-05 vintage. Is very clean and shoots great. Thanks again!
