Even if you have the fastest horse on the track, you've got to let it have the reins in order to win. Timing in NASCAR is a learned process for EVERY driver. She'll get it sooner or later.

Daytona-500 2013 was a good race overall. I'm in the crowd that hates to see "the big one," so it was a good race for me.

I can't watch it anymore. It suck's. I don't go to watch a parade. Nascar want's it so even it just aint fun no more. It's all about Nascar and the sponsor's. What happened to" the engine builder and the driver"? It's not racing at all, it's who is the lucky one on the last lap.If I liked watching parade's I would probably love it.

NASCAR fans love to flame F1 for its reliance on engineers and technology, yet, that's like the pot calling the kettle black. NASCAR success is predicated on deep pockets for engineering and technology. Big money wins the race.

Doesn't even compare to F1 money.

Yes, and F1 fans embrace NASCAR fans as long-last family members, right?

Just depends on what you find entertaining. NASCAR has lots of passing and lead changes in cars that rely on the driver more. F1 seems to have less passing and fewer lead changes in cars that handle better.

What is this "lots of passing and lead changes" you speak of?

No F1 fan would not understand passing and lead changes.
Talk about a parade of dullness.

My bad, not trying to find fault in anyone but pointing out that it was said. Sorry for the mistype, you are right in the quote, but how many times did he have to rehearse that quote. Still singled out Danica apart from the field, why? She's a driver and made the big dance.

I hope that's sarcasm.

I think there was around 30 lead changes in 200 laps during the Daytona 500 this year. That's a lead change every 6 laps on average only counting who was in lead at the start/finish line. And this is considered not much passing in NASCAR.

I read during one particular formula 1 race there were 2 lead changes.

Because saying gentleman start your engines would be rude.

My fave was Can-Am racing back in the late '60's-early '70's.
Now it's F1.

I don't watch F1. V8 Supercars and IndyCar for me...

Lead changes are not really a good indicator of anything. You are counting when the leaders pit and others take the lead, then they pit and someone else takes the lead.

I could type many paragraphs arguing my view, or I can just post this video:

NASCAR's racing quality simply isn't on the same level.

The answer is, as it always should be, if there are women in the field, the command is "Drivers, start your engines." Don't try to be cute and fancy and you won't insert your foot in your mouth like he did.

They only race 2 cars at a time?

Just watched Tanner Foust in a McLaren race Carl Edwards in his Sprint Cup car on Top Gear. Looked like fun.

I dunno... I kinda liked what I saw. Now, granted, the sum total of my prior experience was driving by on the Daytona trips, catching news highlights now and then, and being in a room with something on the TV - never what you would call a fan. However, I did pick it up with something like 120 to go and watched in the background until the last 20 or so, then did find myself getting into it. I think it is true that the presentation makes a big difference; I found myself listening to races on the radio last year while driving for my old job. Like watching football and listening to Gino/Gil (if you know them) - they can get you into it more than you thought. Would I watch something like this again? Maybe pick it up, but probably not start to finish.

I do have to say that I got excited describing to my wife the spectacle of cars ! that close ! at 195 mph. That has a certain built in thrill. And, admitted, you wait for wrecks too...

Exactly. I wouldn't care if the leader lapped the field cause he was that much better. It would be interesting. Unlike the manufactured closeness of the current races.

And NASCAR should go the way of the Aussie V8s. So much better.

That was cool but am I the only one that finds it suspicious that Adam was disqualified from the taxi competition?

Also, so far this season Top Gear US has been more entertaining than Top Gear UK. Wierd. Maybe it's because all Top Gear UK seems to be interested in doing is insulting American cars (which I get their point but quite often they are comparing a $70K American car to a $200K European car).

You say that, but after about 5 races and the same person leading for 10 hours, it would get boring.

Daytona's "manufactured closeness" is actually an attempt to keep the speeds under 200mph and keep the cars from taking flight during wrecks. If you think a wheel flying into the stands looks bad for NASCAR imagine the entire car landing in the grandstands!

Another 30mph and I definitely think it's a possibility.

It's far beyond suspicious. It's just silly. And Rutledge cheated to win the last competition, but then was "found out" which allowed Tanner to drive another super car (Bugatti I think last time?). I think the only time one of the others "won" the stig or someone else actually ended up driving the car for them.

It seems their format change has become permanent which is too bad. I kinda liked seeing how some of the celebrities did on the track.
