A girl and her daddy's Glock

Since it turned out to be a nice day in Ohio today, and I wanted to celebrate finally getting a new job, I decided to hit the range.

I asked my oldest, 10, if she wanted to come and shoot with me. Surprisingly she said yes. She's a girl, never know which way she's going to go. She said she wanted to shoot 9mm, and not the Ruger (Mark III). I said ok, I'll get into my stash and will let her run 9mm. I grabbed three boxes of ammo, my gen1 17 and strapped on my 23.

Get out to the range and signed in and out to the line. Grab a box of ammo and go to load the 17. I then realized that I had 2 boxes of .40 with me and only 1 box of 9mm.

My daughter didn't care. We went through the 9mm first then moved on to my 23. She handled the .40 pretty well for it being her first time. She kept it on the paper, which wasn't bad since her glasses were being fixed and all she saw was a red blob.

Turned out a be a good time. A lady in the lane next to us let her try her 26 (she was thrilled because it was the gun Black Widow used). I then shared my 23 with the lady.

It was too busy to get our target from the stand, else I'd have it to show off.

Great form and a future hall of fame Glock owner. My hat's off to you for encouraging your Daughter not to fear the gun but master and respect it. Better buy more ammo I think you have a new range partner!

Thanks. I kept on her about her stance and grip. Her hands fit the 17 pretty well, but the 23 was a tad large to get a full proper grip.

She's so finicky, the last few times I've asked her she hasn't wanted to go. My 8 year old always goes, but she was at a friend's house.

Great story and pics. My sons seemed OK shooting a 9mm Glock around the age of 12. My daughter seems intimidated by them but will shoot a .22 decently.

My daughters, wife, brothers, and my dad will all be shooting tomorrow.

We big boys are setting up a 3-gun type range to run a tacticle edge to the fun.

Any chance that is not a coincidence that she chose to go this week? Maybe the 10 year old doesn't like competing with her younger sibling -- either in the shooting, or for Dad's time/attention? Just thinking out loud . . .

There's been times it's just been her and I at home and she decides not to go. I understand your thinking out loud, but I don't think that's it. She doesn't like to try new things, so I try not to force her to do it, but when she does try new things she loves it. I probably have her hooked now though. She told me a few times tonight that she had fun.

So yeah I need to get into re-loading luckily I have another 250 rounds of .40 and 800ish rounds of 9mm to get through this current panic.

Take her all you can. Time passes too quickly.My "little girl" will be getting married in April. It seems like she was just 10 years old.

Funny story after we finished up and went back in the shop to sign out and so I could window shop. A guy was in there looking for a new pistol, trying to decide between Glock, Sig or M&P. This other guy that was an ex-LEO (he claimed) and part time CCW instructor (he claimed but couldn't answer any basic Ohio laws because he doesn't teach that often) was dogging on the .40, how it's too snappy and hard to control. That it's not a good round, yadda-ya.

After he walked away and i was still looking at the Gen4 35, the buyer asked me my thoughts. I told him my 10 year was just out there shooting my 23. So it's not that bad.

(I know some people don't like it, but I always encourage people to try it at least and judge for themselves.)

That's cool. I hope to have my AR built by early summer so I can get her on it. I think she will really enjoy shooting 25 & 50 yards. She's a critical thinker and would enjoy the challenge I think.
